Optimized client-side deduplication

One example method includes optimizing client-side deduplication. When backing up a client, an overwrite ratio is determined based on a size of actual changes made to a volume and a size indicated by changes in a change log. Client-side deduplication is enabled or disabled based on a value of the overwrite ratio.

MANAGEMENT SYSTEM, AND MANAGEMENT METHOD

In the present invention, a management system has a storage device and a processor. The storage device holds an information processing program for controlling information pertaining to a storage system by utilizing a database. The processor executes an update program that updates the information processing program and the database utilized by the information processing program. The update program calculates an estimated update time needed to update the information processing program and the database on the basis of the size of at least a portion of the database utilized by the information processing program before being updated and the structure of the database utilized by the information processing program after being updated, and outputs the estimated update time thus calculated.

Method for a reliability, availability, and serviceability-conscious huge page support

A method includes, in response to a memory error indication indicating an uncorrectable error in a faulted segment, associating in a remapping table the faulted segment with a patch segment in a patch memory region, and in response to receiving from a processor a memory access request directed to the faulted segment, servicing the memory access request from the patch segment by performing the requested memory access at the patch segment based on a patch segment address identifying the location of the patch segment. The patch segment address is determined from the remapping table and corresponds to a requested memory address specified by the memory access request.

Method, device, and program product for managing storage pool of storage system

Storage devices in a pool are divided into at least one group with a first number of storage devices in an existing group not higher than a range. When a second number of storage devices are added to the resource pool, a sum of the first number and the second number is determined. A new group is created based on at least a portion of the second number of storage devices when the sum does not satisfy the range; and another portion of the second number of storage devices are added to the existing group. A first storage space portion in each of a set of shared storage devices selected from the existing group is allocated to the existing group, and a second storage space portion in each of the set of shared storage devices is allocated to the new group. The storage space utilization rate can be increased.

Mitigating read disturb effects in memory devices

A die read counter and a block read counter are maintained for a specified block of a memory device. An estimated number of read events associated with the specified block is determined based on a value of the block read counter and a value of the die read counter. Responsive to determining that the estimated number of read events satisfies a criterion, a media management operation of one or more pages associated with the specified block is performed.

CONTROL STATE PRESERVATION DURING TRANSACTIONAL EXECUTION

A method includes saving a control state for a processor in response to commencing a transactional processing sequence, wherein saving the control state produces a saved control state. The method also includes permitting updates to the control state for the processor while executing the transactional processing sequence. Examples of updates to the control state include key mask changes, primary region table origin changes, primary segment table origin changes, CPU tracing mode changes, and interrupt mode changes. The method also includes restoring the control state for the processor to the saved control state in response to encountering a transactional error during the transactional processing sequence. In some embodiments, saving the control state comprises saving the current control state to memory corresponding to internal registers for an unused thread or another level of virtualization. A corresponding computer system and computer program product are also disclosed herein.

Failure Prediction Using Informational Logs and Golden Signals

Embodiments relate to a computer platform to support processing of informational logs and corresponding performance data to detect and mitigate occurrence of anomalous behavior. Metrics are extracted from the informational logs and correlated with performance data, and in an exemplary embodiment golden signal metrics. A window or block of the logs is classified as potential candidates or indicators of anomalous behavior, which in an embodiment is indicative of potential failure or service outage. A control signal is dynamically issued to an operatively coupled device associated with the window or block of logs. The control signal is configured to selectively control a state of a physical device or process controlled by software, with the control directed at mitigating or eliminating the effect(s) of the anomalous behavior.

Low-latency direct cloud access with file system hierarchies and semantics

Techniques described herein relate to systems and methods of data storage, and more particularly to providing layering of file system functionality on an object interface. In certain embodiments, file system functionality may be layered on cloud object interfaces to provide cloud-based storage while allowing for functionality expected from a legacy applications. For instance, POSIX interfaces and semantics may be layered on cloud-based storage, while providing access to data in a manner consistent with file-based access with data organization in name hierarchies. Various embodiments also may provide for memory mapping of data so that memory map changes are reflected in persistent storage while ensuring consistency between memory map changes and writes. For example, by transforming a ZFS file system disk-based storage into ZFS cloud-based storage, the ZFS file system gains the elastic nature of cloud storage.

Memory device with status feedback for error correction

Methods, systems, and devices for a memory device with status feedback for error correction are described. For example, during a read operation, a memory device may perform an error correction operation on first data read from a memory array of the memory device. The error correction operation may generate second data and an indicator of a state of error corresponding to the second data. In one example, the indicator may indicate one of multiple possible states of error. In another example, the indicator may indicate a corrected error or no detectable error. The memory device may output the first or second data and the indicator of the state of error during a same burst interval. The memory device may output the data on a first channel and the indicator of the state of error on a second channel.
