DATA BACKUP USING METADATA MAPPING

An information processing apparatus, backup method, and program product that enable efficient differential backup. In one embodiment, an information processing apparatus for files stored in a storage device includes: a metadata management unit for managing metadata of files stored in the storage device; a map generation unit for generating a map which indicates whether metadata associated with an identification value uniquely identifying a file in the storage device is present or absent; and a backup management unit for scanning the metadata to detect files that have been created, modified, or deleted since the last backup, and storing at least a data block and the metadata for a detected file in a backup storage device as backup information in association with the identification value.

RECOVERING FREE SPACE IN NONVOLATILE STORAGE WITH A COMPUTER STORAGE SYSTEM SUPPORTING SHARED OBJECTS
20180004769 · 2018-01-04 ·

To identify objects shared by entities and to, in turn, identify free space in nonvolatile storage, a computer system uses a probabilistic data structure which tests whether an element is a member of a set. Such probabilistic data structures are created for entities in the storage system that share objects. The probabilistic data structure for an entity represents the objects that are used by that entity. When an entity is deleted, each object used by that entity is compared to the probabilistic data structures of other entities to determine if there is a likelihood that the object is used by one or more of the other entities. If the likelihood determined for an object is above an acceptable threshold, then the object is not deleted. If the likelihood determined for an object is below the set threshold, then the object can be deleted and the corresponding storage locations can be marked as free.

A method, an apparatus, and an electronic device for processing a data transaction are disclosed. The method includes receiving an application request from a client to perform a data operation in a target data partition; creating a corresponding data transaction according to the application request, and assigning a transaction identifier to the data transaction; returning the transaction identifier that is assigned to the data transaction to the client; performing the data operation based on the target data partition according to the data operation carrying the transaction identifier and sent by the client; and processing the data transaction according to a transaction instruction sent by the client. The method enables a data operation to implement transactional attributes, and to satisfy a transactional nature of the data operation. Moreover, the service logic of data transactions implemented by the method is relatively simple, thus ensuring that data services have a good transactional nature.

FLAT OBJECT STORAGE NAMESPACE IN AN OBJECT STORAGE SYSTEM

A system, method, and machine-readable storage medium for maintaining an object storage system data are provided. In some embodiments, an object manager may receive a request to perform an operation on an object. The object storage system includes a first database of a first type and a second database of a second type. The object manager may identify a first record stored in the first database. The first record includes a name marker indicating a range of object names covered by the second database and includes a file handle referencing the second database. The range of object names includes the object name. Additionally, the object manager may identify a second record stored in the second database. The second record includes the object name and includes a file handle referencing the object. The object manager may perform the operation on the object in accordance with the request.

Systems and methods for file management by mobile computing devices

Systems and methods for file management by mobile computing devices. An example method, performed by a computer system, may comprise: storing, by a computer system, a first file having a first size, in a memory; storing, in the memory, a second file derived from the first file, the second file having the second size, the second size being less than the first size; determining that the memory is not sufficient to perform a memory write operation; selecting a third file having a fourth file associated with it, the fourth file derived from the third file; and removing the third file from the memory.

Ephemeral gallery elimination based on gallery and message timers

A server maintains a gallery of ephemeral messages respectively comprising visual media content, such as user-provided photographic content or user-provided video content. Each ephemeral message is posted to the gallery by a user for viewing by recipients via recipient devices. In response to a gallery view request from any of the recipient devices, the ephemeral messages in the gallery are displayed on the requesting device in automated sequence, each message being displayed for a respective display duration before display of the next message in the gallery. The gallery has a global gallery availability parameter, and each message has a gallery participation timer. The gallery is made unavailable for viewing upon expiry of the gallery availability parameter or upon expiry of the gallery participation timer of a last posted message in the gallery, whichever occurs first.

Systems and methods for document search and aggregation with reduced bandwidth and storage demand

Methods and systems comprising a gateway coordinator of a local system that receives a task comprising search criteria, crawls for files on a local data source of the local system, and encounters one or more files of interest. The one or more files of interest may be deNISTed and deduplicated and sent to an upload coordinator of a remote cloud facility. In one or more examples, the gateway coordinator may be a virtual machine.

Managing dependent delete operations among data stores

Example distributed storage systems, delete managers, and methods provide for managing dependent delete operations among data stores. Dependent data operation entries and corresponding dependency sets may be identified in an operations log. Dependent data operations may be identified in each shard and data operation entries. A delete process for the data objects in the dependency set may be delayed until the delete process for the dependent data object completes.
