In one exemplary arrangement, a data logging device for a vehicle is disclosed that comprises a computing unit, a data interface and a data box. The computing unit is configured to collect data from a vehicle. The collected data is transferred from the computing unit to the data box that is integrally housed in the data logging device via the data interface. The data box is configured to transmit data externally from the data logging device to a cloud storage solution.

Nonvolatile memory geometry export by memory controller with variable host configuration of addressable memory space

This disclosure provides for improvements in managing multi-drive, multi-die or multi-plane NAND flash memory. In one embodiment, the host directly assigns physical addresses and performs logical-to-physical address translation in a manner that reduces or eliminates the need for a memory controller to handle these functions, and initiates functions such as wear leveling in a manner that avoids competition with host data accesses. A memory controller optionally educates the host on array composition, capabilities and addressing restrictions. Host software can therefore interleave write and read requests across dies in a manner unencumbered by memory controller address translation. For multi-plane designs, the host writes related data in a manner consistent with multi-plane device addressing limitations. The host is therefore able to “plan ahead” in a manner supporting host issuance of true multi-plane read commands.

Offloading file-indexing to memory card firmware

Systems and methods are disclosed for a self-indexing removable storage device. In certain embodiments, the removable storage device is configured to be connected to a memory reader of a host device. The removable storage device comprises storage media, a controller configured to run firmware, and a buffer. The controller is configured to, while connected to a first host device, receive a write operation from the first host device, monitor changes to the storage media caused by the write operation, and update a file index stored on the removable storage device with the monitored changes. The controller is further configured to, in response to connecting the removable storage device to a memory reader of a second host device, provide the file index to an application on the second host device, and cause the application to display files on the storage media based on the file index.

Efficient distribution of large directories

A method for distribution of directories in a storage system is provided. The method includes distributing information, regarding location in the storage system of a plurality of files in a directory, to a plurality of owners in a plurality of storage nodes of the storage system, wherein ownership of differing subsets of the plurality of files of the directory is distributed among differing owners in differing storage nodes. The method includes receiving a request for location information in the storage system of a file of the plurality of files in the directory and determining, based on a file name of the file and an identity of the directory, which of the plurality of owners has ownership of the file and the location information for the file.

Trim setting determination on a memory device

The present disclosure includes apparatuses and methods related to determining trim settings on a memory device. An example apparatus can determine a set of trim settings for the array of memory cells based on the operational characteristics of the array of memory cells, wherein the set of trim settings are associated with desired operational characteristics for the array of memory cells.

Systems and methods for fail-safe operations of storage devices

Techniques for enabling fail-safe operations of storage devices are described. A device may be configured to delete an inode in a failsafe manner. A device may be configured to mark directory entries as not in use and ensure this goes to disk before anything else. A device may be configured to create an inode in a failsafe manner. A device may be configured to allocate and initialize a cluster and ensure this is written to disk before anything else. In this manner, a volume may be in a predictable state upon a failure occurring.

Maintenance of non-volaitle memory on selective namespaces

This disclosure provides for improvements in managing multi-drive, multi-die or multi-plane NAND flash memory. The host is therefore able to “plan ahead” in a manner supporting host issuance of true multi-plane read commands.

Directory structure for a distributed storage system

A plurality of computing devices are communicatively coupled to each other via a network, and each of the plurality of computing devices is operably coupled to one or more flash storage devices. Each computing device is operable to access one or more memory blocks within the flash storage devices and maintain a directory structure for managing access to the memory. The directory structure may be adaptively resized according to the addition or removal of one or more associated files stored in memory.

Storage device with erase unit level address mapping

This disclosure provides for improvements in managing multi-drive, multi-die or multi-plane NAND flash memory. In one embodiment, the host directly assigns physical addresses and performs logical-to-physical address translation in a manner that reduces or eliminates the need for a memory controller to handle these functions, and initiates functions such as wear leveling in a manner that avoids competition with host data accesses. A method for data storage includes assigning multiple different portions of a given object, which is stored in non-volatile storage, for access by multiple respective software modules running on one or more processors. Storage operations are performed by the software modules in the portions of the given object. Respective local values, which are indicative of most recent times the storage operations were performed in the given object by the respective software modules, are updated by the software modules. A global value is updated for the given object, by consolidating updates of the local values performed by the software modules.
