Sensing systems and methods for monitoring gait dynamics

Systems and method for monitoring gait dynamics are disclosed. The performance of an orthotic or prosthetic device or other device associated with a limb may be measured based on the resistance of a bending sensor. Data from the sensors is gathered or processed, particularly for purposes of alignment, safety, failure, usage, selection, and artificial proprioception. Information relating to the device may be outputted visually or auditorily to an individual.

Prosthesis socket

A prosthesis socket for a prosthesis, which comprises a connecting member for a distal prosthesis device and an outer socket, which is made predominantly from a rigid material, and a proximal opening for receiving a residual limb and which is surrounded by an outer socket edge. The outer socket edge is made of a flexible and non-elastic material in a ventral region, the flexible and non-elastic material being adapted to the body shape of the wearer of the prosthesis socket.

LINER FOR PROSTHETIC AND ORTHOPEDIC SYSTEMS

A liner is arranged for use in prosthetic and orthopedic devices. The liner defines first and second end portions, and inner and outer surfaces. The liner includes an inner layer having a frictional component and forms at least part of the periphery of the inner liner surface. The inner layer defines a plurality of apertures. A porous element is in communication with the inner liner surface and is connected to the inner layer such that the apertures permit a transfer of air from the inner surface to the porous element. A base layer adjoins the porous element and extends between the first and second end portions of the liner.

A socket to interface a lower limb which has undergone amputation and a modular element, includes a proximal portion allowing the lower limb that has undergone amputation to be inserted; a distal portion allowing the modular element to be fastened; an internal deformable layer made of silicone rubber, designed to be in contact with the lower limb that has undergone amputation; an external deformable layer made of silicone rubber; a structure made of rigid material arranged between the internal layer and the external layer, comprising at least two posts, each post extending substantially axially from a base on the distal side towards an end on the proximal side, the ends of the various posts being not linked, so as to separate from or approach each other due to the effect of deformation of the internal layer and of the external layer.

COMPOSITE COMPONENTS MADE OF HEAT-CURING RESINS AND ELASTOMERS

A plastic composite component which is formed by a thin hard plastic outer layer, at least one elastomer layer adjoining the former on the inside, and at least one metal and/or plastic carrier layer adjoining said elastomer layer on the inside and made of a fibre reinforced plastic (RFP). A carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CRP) or glass fibre reinforced plastic (GRP), is arranged on the component or at least partly forms the latter, as an impact protection part, as a splinter protection part, as a protective part against sudden total failure or as a protective part against vibrations and vibration damages, against resonance, for the purpose of damping oscillations or for the purpose of acoustic damping.

SYSTEM FOR CONNECTING A PROSTHESIS COMPONENT TO A PROSTHESIS SHAFT
20180161183 · 2018-06-14 ·

A shaft system for a leg prosthesis with the shaft system featuring a prosthesis shaft which has a wall made of fiber-reinforced plastic material and which features at its proximal end an entrance opening and at its distal end a fastening assembly for the connection of prosthesis components and the attachment of tensioning elements and functional parts of the prosthesis such as locks, draw-in and connecting elements. In order to enable on such a shaft system the feasibility and faster adaptability to the requirements of a user of this shaft system, it is proposed to provide the aforementioned passage opening with at least one reinforcement element. This allows easier fitting of a prosthesis because of the possibility of a faster and simpler repositioning if needed or the faster exchange of prosthesis components.

Prosthetic foot with hybrid layup

A prosthetic foot has a plate-like foot member with a core section substantially defined by one or more layers comprising a first material fiber, an upper section disposed above the core section, the upper section substantially defined by one or more layers comprising a second material fiber, and a lower section disposed below the core section, the lower section substantially defined by one or more layers comprising a third material fiber, where the upper, lower and core sections together define a total thickness of the plate-like elongate foot member. An idealized ratio of the cross sectional area of each section can be determined such that under an applied load provided to the hybrid layup, the ratio of maximum stress of a given section over the flexural strength of that given section is approximately equal for all sections of the hybrid layup. The hybrid layup arrangement can be configured to have a greater strength, but generally the same stiffness, as a similar foot member made of carbon fiber.

Prosthesis socket

A prosthesis socket having a proximal end and a distal end, an opening at the proximal end for the insertion of a stump, a receiving device for a prosthesis component at the distal end, and at least one splint, which includes a dimensionally stable material and which, in the area of the distal end, comprises a circular receiver. The splint is embedded in a flexible matrix of plastic or silicone. The matrix of plastic or silicone forms a hollow profiled. At least one flexible and tensionally rigid limiting element is arranged on the splint.

PROSTHESIS CASTING DEVICE
20180055662 · 2018-03-01 ·

A prosthesis socket casting device having a housing and a flexible membrane for receiving a residual limb, the housing and the membrane defining a cavity for containing a fluid. Within the housing are means that are a function of the patient's weight for altering the distribution of the reactive fluid pressure applied when the residual limb is received within the membrane. In a preferred embodiment, the altering means comprise a movable piston that is provided at a lower end of the housing.
