PASSIVE ANKLE PROSTHESIS WITH ENERGY RETURN

An ankle prosthesis comprises a foot prosthesis. A lower ankle is pivotably secured to the foot prosthesis at an ankle joint. An upper ankle is connected to the lower ankle in a manner that permits vertical movement of the upper ankle relative to the lower ankle. A coupling spring is biased in an extended condition. The coupling spring is connected at a first end to the upper ankle. A second end of the coupling spring is movable in a first condition which is engaged to the lower ankle and in a second condition engaged to the foot prosthesis. Energy is stored in compression of the coupling spring when the coupling spring is in the first condition and energy is released from the coupling spring when the coupling spring is in the second condition.

ORTHOTIC OR PROSTHETIC CUSHIONED DEVICE AND METHOD OF MAKING THE SAME

Orthotic and prosthetic devices having integrated features such as cushioning features are described, as well as methods for computer aided designing and making of these devices. The orthotic or prosthetic devices comprise a cushioning layer superimposed onto an orthotic or prosthetic shell, the cushioning layer comprising an array (35) of discrete solid and resilient cushioning elements (31). In one preferred embodiment, said cushioning structure is a beam, defined around a centerline of any arbitrary shape. In another preferred embodiment, said cushioning structure has the shape of a spiral.

Locking prosthetic knee and core components therefor

A prosthetic knee can include a variable-torque magnetorheological (MR) actuator assembly or braking system, a frame and an electronics assembly or system that also serves as a mount for the knee actuator and facilitates in monitoring and controlling the operation of the knee actuator. The prosthetic knee system advantageously provides resistive forces to substantially simulate the position and motion of a natural knee joint during ambulation and/or other locomotory activities performed by the amputee. The prosthetic knee can have a series of internal blades for providing resistive forces. A locking ratchet can be used to lock knee position. A dynamic seal with a protective shim can be disposed in the knee actuator. A coil with a non-circular cross-section can be used.

Mechanical prosthetic hand

A body-powered articulated prosthetic hand where each of the segments of the digits, the palmer plate, the thumb pivot plate and the wrist are individually sizeable. This allows for both a proportionately scalable hand as well as individual customization of geometric configurations tailored to specific use patterns. The hand is crushable since it has flexible and pivotable connections between digits along the length and width of the hand. It has a hollow member construction that imparts a strong lightweight design. It is modular so individual parts can be replaced for quick repair. From an aesthetics point, it is visually pleasing and can be offered in different colors, and with custom digit sleeves for specific applications. Fingers can be operated individually or in groups via pairs of cables which allow operation in either voluntary open or voluntary closed modes of control. The flexible construction allows gripping of irregularly shaped objects and deforms before failing giving indication of overload prior to failure.

Prosthetic knee joint lockable into an extension position

The invention relates to a prosthetic joint which can be used as an artificial knee. Said prosthetic joint consists of a knee upper part (1), a knee lower part (2) and a fixing element (8) connecting said two lower parts. The knee upper part is rotationally arranged about the rotational axis (4) of the fixing element and rotation occurs counter to the force of an elastic element (17) which is arranged in knee lower part. Detachable fixing means (7), which are used to fix at least one rotational position, are provided between the knee upper part and the fixing element.

A prosthesis system can have an advantageous use over conventional prostheses in certain activities, including, but not limited to certain sports activities: The system includes, elastic member(s) that can store and release energy. The storing and releasing of energy in the elastic members happens during the movements made by the user and with the application of the user's own body weight while performing an activity. Implementations can also include a variety of routing configurations for the elastic member(s), as well as a variety of mounting points to integrate the elastic member(s) into the system, and/or a variety of adjustable anti-hyperextension members, and/or a variety of interchangeable shoes used for applicable activities.

PROSTHESIS SOCKET VACUUM DEVICE
20190008663 · 2019-01-10 ·

A prosthesis socket vacuum device includes a base formed with a first chamber formed with a discharge channel and a vacuum relief channel and a second chamber provided, on an underside thereof, with a locking assembly, which includes a position-constraining block. A positioning assembly having sealing gaskets fit thereto includes a locking pin extending through a positioning member and formed with a recess. In setting the positioning assembly into the base, the positioning member compresses and expels internal air of the first chamber to the outside through the discharge channel in a soundless manner to form a vacuum condition. The locking pin drives the locking assembly to displace until the recess and a closure hole are fixed relative to each other so as to have the locking assembly closes the vacuum relief channel. A gap is provided between the closure hole and the recess to provide an effect of cushioning.

A prosthesis with controlled linear motion and methods for adapting the device to multiple amputation points are described. The device is designed to shorten during the swing phase to prevent striking the surface of the ground, and extend at the beginning and end of the swing to provide forward propulsion and begin to transfer bodyweight load from the opposing leg. The prosthesis includes an actuator to provide linear motion, a battery, sensors, and a controller.

MECHANICAL JOINT WITH SWITCHABLE, ROTATION-CONSTRAINING CLUTCH

The current document is directed to a two-way, by-passable, overrunning clutch incorporated within a mechanical prosthetic knee that provides functionality similar to a biological knee or incorporated in another articulated device, such as a robotic or orthotic articulated device or member. The currently disclosed two-way, by-passable, overrunning clutch allows for two-way free rotation when disabled, but, when enabled, prevents rotation in one direction while allowing free rotation in the other direction. In the mechanical prosthetic knee, the two-way, by-passable, overrunning clutch is enabled by application of a mechanical force and disabled by removal of the mechanical force.
