Some embodiments include a smart card reader system that includes a card reader cavity that is impervious to liquid. The card reader cavity includes a secure card reader (SCR) holder bonded to a printed circuit board (PCB), to provide a liquid barrier between the SCR holder and the PCB. The PCB includes an SCR spring contact connector. The card reader cavity can receive a smart card including an integrated circuit (IC), where the IC is coupled to the SCR spring contact connector. A processor coupled to the SCR spring contact connector, can receive an input regarding a transaction using data of the smart card, and execute the transaction. In some embodiments a roller system seals the card reader cavity when the smart card reader system is not in use.

An information processing apparatus includes a first reader, a touch panel, and a processor. The first reader has a first reading function which electrically reads first information, stored in a communication medium, in a non-contact manner. The touch panel electrically detects contact or proximity of an object as an input detection function. The processor is electrically connected to the first reader and the touch panel, turns OFF the first reader in response to the input detection function of the touch panel being turned ON, and turns OFF the input detection function of the touch panel in response to the first reader being turned ON.

An information processing apparatus includes a first reader, a touch panel, and a processor. The first reader has a first reading function which electrically reads first information, stored in a communication medium, in a non-contact manner. In certain embodiments, a storage includes a display-less enclosure, non-volatile memory, memory configured to store firmware, and control circuitry. The control circuitry can be configured to determine an available space in the non-volatile memory, determine a first color corresponding to the available space based on a mapping of ranges of available space to corresponding colors, apply a voltage to the electrochromic material to change the color changing surface to the first color, and cease application of the voltage to the electrochromic material, wherein the color changing surface retains the first color after cessation of the voltage.

Apparatus and methods are provided for a smart card that stages transactions by capturing the amount, pin and other necessary information on the smart card itself, before the user begins interacting with the ATM. Information captured by the smart card may be transferred to ATM when the smart card is inserted into ATM. The user does not provide the ATM with any additional information after inserted the smart card into the ATM, thereby improving the transaction processing efficiency of the ATM and enhancing user satisfaction.

Vendor websites may be configured to generate a unique code identifying the vendor offering the product/service, the product/service and price of the product/service. The smart card includes a keypad for entering the unique code and completing payment for the desired product/service. The smart card will include a microprocessor and wireless interface. The wireless interface provides wireless communication capabilities and the ability to initiate online payments based on information captured by the keypad.
