Some embodiments include a smart card reader system that includes a card reader cavity that is impervious to liquid. The card reader cavity includes a secure card reader (SCR) holder bonded to a printed circuit board (PCB), to provide a liquid barrier between the SCR holder and the PCB. The PCB includes an SCR spring contact connector. The card reader cavity can receive a smart card including an integrated circuit (IC), where the IC is coupled to the SCR spring contact connector. A processor coupled to the SCR spring contact connector, can receive an input regarding a transaction using data of the smart card, and execute the transaction. In some embodiments a roller system seals the card reader cavity when the smart card reader system is not in use.

A card insertion part may include a base plate secured to a card reader main body; a substrate that is disposed on an opposite side of the card reader main body with respect to the base plate and including a light source installed on a surface thereof on an opposite side of the base plate; a cover with optical transparency that spreads over the substrate on an opposite side of the base plate; an insulating member that is disposed between the substrate and the base plate; and a flexible wiring member connected to the substrate. The substrate may include an opening through which the card is passed, and a ground wiring pattern formed on an area surrounding the opening. The ground wiring pattern may be electrically connected to the card reader main body via the flexible wiring member.

The hybrid transaction card reader includes a magnetic strip reader and a chip reader. The device for protecting the hybrid reader includes an upper protective printed circuit and a lower protective printed circuit. The hybrid reader further includes a lateral protective printed circuit which includes a superposition of unitary printed circuits, the plane of superposition of the unitary printed circuits being parallel to the plane of the upper protective printed circuit and to the plane of the lower protective printed circuit.
