Card reader and foreign matter detection method

A card reader may include a main body part having a conveyance path; a first card detection mechanism disposed upstream of the main body part; a second card detection mechanism disposed in the main body part at a distance less than a length of the card from the first card detection mechanism; a shutter member disposed between the first and second card detection mechanisms; a shutter state detector; and a control unit. The control unit may be structured to close the shutter member when an object is detected by the second card detection mechanism after being detected by the first card detection mechanism, and then the inserted object is not detected by the second card detection mechanism while the inserted object is not detected by the first card detection mechanism; and detect that an object other than the card has been inserted when the shutter member close after the control.

Card/chassis coupling system

A card/chassis coupling system includes a chassis defining a chassis housing with a chassis wall defining a card entrance to the chassis housing. The chassis wall engages a securing element on a card to secure it in the chassis housing. A card/chassis release device adjacent the card entrance includes a base in the chassis housing, and a card mover member and securing element release member that are each moveably coupled to the base and to an actuator member extending through the chassis wall. Movement of the actuator member into the chassis housing causes the securing element release member to move relative to the base to engage the securing element on the card and disengage it from the chassis wall, and causes the card mover member to move relative to the base to engage the card and move it through the card entrance and out of the chassis housing.

Card tray of electrical connector assembly having a front surface feature for increasing a withdrawn travel distance

A card connector assembly includes: an electrical connector including an insulative housing, a plurality of terminals secured to the insulative housing, a shell covering the insulative housing to form a receiving cavity, and an ejector having a pivot; and a card tray removably received in the receiving cavity, the card tray having a front surface, wherein the card tray has a protrusion at the front surface, and the pivot has an engaging portion for ejecting the card tray, the engaging portion having a recess for receiving the protrusion and an ejecting end for riding onto the protrusion.

Card reader and foreign matter detection method

A card reader for use with a card, the card reader may include a magnetic detector to detect magnetism from the card inserted into an insertion port; a main body part including a card conveyance path; and a card detection sensor structured to detect a tip end of the card. The magnetic detector and the card detection sensor may be disposed at a distance less than a length of the card in the insertion direction. The card reader may further include a control unit that monitors magnetism detected by the magnetic detector when the card detection sensor detects a tip end of an insert inserted into the insertion port, and detects that an object other than the card has been inserted when a movement distance of the insert in a period in which the magnetism is undetected by the magnetic detector is a predetermined value or more.

A card connector for SIM cards and the like includes a base or housing and a cover that removably attaches to the base. A spring contact disposed within the base that engages a card during insertion and removal operations to provide controlled insertion and removal forces. The spring contact defines a base portion defining a first longitudinal end and an opposing second longitudinal end, a first resilient member extending above the base portion, a second resilient member extending above the base portion, and a third resilient member extending above the base portion.

SIM card release mechanism with SMA actuator
