Socket for Upper Extremity Prosthesis
A socket may be for coupling a prosthetic upper extremity to a residual limb of a user. The socket may include a proximal socket portion and a distal socket portion coupled to the proximal socket portion by a polycentric joint. The polycentric joint may include a plate having a first end coupled to the proximal socket portion via a first fastener, and a second end coupled to the distal socket portion via a second fastener. The proximal socket portion may be rotatable relative to the distal socket portion about a first axis passing through the first fastener and about a second axis passing through the second fastener.
METHODS AND DEVICES FOR HAPTIC COMMUNICATION
A haptic stimulator includes a multilayer sheet with a piezoelectric or electroactive polymer layer adapted to mechanically deform upon application of voltage, the multilayer sheet secured to a substrate, and a source of electrical stimulation coupled to drive electrodes on the polymer layer with an AC signal to vibrate the polymer layer. In particular embodiments, the polymer contains polyvinylidene fluoride, and electrodes are patterned to control local electric fields. Another haptic stimulator has first and second electrodes with an air gap and an insulating sheet between first and second electrodes, with an AC voltage driver connecting to the electrodes. In a method of providing haptic stimulation to skin an alternating current supply drives first and second electrodes, the electrodes disposed upon either a piezoelectric or electroactive polymer sheet, vibrating the polymer layer by driving the electrodes; and coupling vibrations of the polymer layer to the sensate skin.
LINER FOR A TRANSRADIAL PROSTHESIS AND METHOD FOR THE PRODUCTION THEREOF
A liner and a method for producing a liner for a lower arm prosthesis, wherein the liner comprises a base body with a closed distal end and an open proximal end, and the method comprises the production of the base body by moulding a preform, in particular using a casting or dipping method, wherein in at least one section of the preform a first diameter of the blank is greater than a second diameter in a second direction, which extends orthogonally to the first direction.
BODY CHANNEL COMMUNICATION METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PERFORMING THE SAME
Disclosed are a body channel communication method and an apparatus performing the same. An operating method of a transmitter includes obtaining an input signal including biometric information, generating an encoded signal and a control signal by encoding the input signal, generating a return-to-zero (RZ) signal of a biphasic waveform based on the encoded signal, and transmitting the RZ signal through a body channel.
MODULAR PROSTHETIC ARM SYSTEM
Modular arm prosthesis, for amputations higher than the level of the forearm. With the feature of being modular, which gives us an advantage that reduces the repair time by replacing the module quickly. The Socket-stump module which can be adjusted to several stumps thanks to its pneumatic system for grip, decreases the level of customization of each prosthesis thus reducing the manufacturing time and cost of production of each prosthesis, as well as its easy control by means of myoelectric sensors.
SYSTEM FOR CONTROL OF A PROSTHETIC DEVICE
A control system for control of a prosthetic device having a plurality of actuators receives an orientation signal indicative of a desired movement. The control system evaluates whether the prosthetic device may move as desired with a current angle of rotation and commands at least one actuator to move the prosthetic device as desired by maintaining the current angle of rotation or by adjusting the angle of rotation if the prosthetic device cannot move as desired with the current angle. The control system may alternate between commanding a first subset of actuators and a second subset of actuators each time the orientation signal is indicative of a neutral position. The control system may include a position sensor and a compliance sensor and may command at least one actuator based on a combination of positional control using the position sensor and force control using the compliance sensor.
Attachment device allowing natural wrist rotation for osseointegrated prostheses
The present invention relates to a an attachment device for attaching a prosthesis to a bone, comprising: a base plate having an extension in an xy-plane; a first holder for holding a first abutment; a second holder for holding a second abutment; a locking plate attached to the base plate to restrict movement of the holders in a z-direction away from the base plate. The locking plate is configured to allow rotation of the first and second holder around a z-axis perpendicular to the xy-plane. The locking plate and the base plate is configured to allow movement of the first holder along the x-direction and to prevent movement the y-direction and to prevent movement of the second holder in the x- and y-direction. At least one flexible member is arranged between each of the first and second holders and the base plate, the flexible member being flexible in the z-direction to allow movement of the first and second holder in the z-direction and to allow the first and second holder to tilt with respect to the xy-plane.
METHOD OF FITTING A PROSTHETIC INTERFACE SYSTEM USING COMPLIANT MEMBERS
A prosthetic or orthotic device using at least one of measurements of residual limb length or circumference to define a prosthetic socket assembly configuration, comprising modular socket components fitted to the individual user's residual limb having a mounting point for an attachment, at least one compliant member attached to at least one stabilizing unit, and at least one second compliant member attached to at least one stabilizing unit wherein the first compliant member and the second compliant member work in cooperation with the stabilizing unit(s) to control bone position and support the limb within the interface.
Biomimetic limb and robot using the same
The disclosure relates to a biomimetic limb and robot using the same. The biomimetic limb includes: an arm and a biomimetic hand connected to the arm and including at least one biomimetic finger. The biomimetic finger includes a carbon nanotube layer and a vanadium dioxide layer (VO.sub.2) layer stacked with each other. Because the drastic, reversible phase transition of VO.sub.2, the biomimetic finger has giant deformation amplitude and fast response. An robot using the biomimetic limb is also provided.
Valve for a prosthesis socket
Valve for a prosthesis socket, the socket delineating an open cavity to receive a stump of an amputated limb and delineating a pass-through hole opening into the cavity and designed to receive the valve, the valve including a support in which a pass-through channel is formed and an element movable between an outlet position in which the element allow an air flow out of the channel in an outlet direction and a sealing position in which the element prevent any air flow inside the channel in an opposite direction to the outlet direction, the support including a thread configured to mount the support in removable manner inside the pass-through hole, and to enable disassembly of the support in an opposite direction to the outlet direction.
