METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ENHANCING OPERATION OF LEG PROTHESIS
20220265442 · 2022-08-25 ·

A method and apparatus for enhancing the operation of leg prothesis is provided. The apparatus includes a cable configured to be attached to the leg prosthesis worn by a subject to move through a plurality of gait phases. The apparatus also includes a module configured to be mounted to the leg prosthesis. The module includes a tension spring configured to engage the cable to maintain tension in the cable. The module also includes a locking mechanism configured to lock a position of the tension spring and maintain a length of the cable defined between the module and the leg prosthesis during at least one first gait phase of the plurality of gait phases. The locking mechanism is further configured to unlock the position of the tension spring to permit variation of the length of the cable during at least one second gait phase of the plurality of gait phases.

TRANSFEMORAL ROTATOR USING PUSH BUTTON SPRING CLIPS

Transfemoral rotator. The transfemoral rotator includes an inner cylinder that nests within a cavity of a base shell. A spring clip mechanism operated by a push button serves to lock and unlock the transfemoral rotator to allow sitting cross-legged.

Combined active and passive leg prosthesis system and a method for performing a movement with such a system
09717606 · 2017-08-01 · ·

A lower limb prosthesis system and a method of controlling the prosthesis system to replace a missing lower extremity of an individual and perform a gait cycle are disclosed. The prosthesis system has a controller, one or more sensors, a prosthetic foot, and a movable ankle joint member coupled to the prosthetic foot. The movable ankle joint member comprises a hydraulic damping system that provides the ankle joint member damping resistance. The controller varies the damping resistance by providing volumetric flow control to the hydraulic damping system based on sensor data. In one embodiment, the hydraulic damping system comprises a hydraulic piston cylinder assembly, hydraulic fluid, and a valve to regulate the fluid. In one embodiment, the controller alters the damping resistance by modulating the valve to vary the hydraulic fluid flow within the hydraulic piston cylinder assembly of the movable ankle joint member based on sensor data.

Lower limb prosthesis comprising a hydraulic damping and a vacuum generating mechanism

A lower limb prosthesis comprises a foot component and an ankle unit pivotally mounted to the foot component. The ankle unit comprises an ankle joint mechanism comprising a hydraulic piston and cylinder assembly for providing hydraulic damping whenever the ankle joint flexes, and a vacuum mechanism comprising a pneumatic piston and cylinder assembly for generating a vacuum. The hydraulic and pneumatic piston and cylinder assemblies are arranged such that the vacuum mechanism generates a vacuum during plantar-flexion of the ankle unit.

Pump system

A vacuum suspension system includes a foot cover having a heel portion and a pump system located in the heel portion. The pump system includes upper and lower sections arranged to move in an axial direction relative to one another and a pump mechanism operatively connected to and positioned between the upper and lower sections. When the heel portion is loaded in stance the pump mechanism moves from an original configuration in which the volume of a fluid chamber defined by the pump mechanism is zero or near-zero, to an expanded configuration in which the volume of the fluid chamber is increased.

Air Control System for Enhancing a Connection Between a Limb Liner and a Limb Prosthesis

A system for joining a limb liner to a prosthesis. The prosthesis has a socket that is joined to the remainder of the prosthesis using a hub assembly. The hub assembly includes a first hub and a second hub. The first hub is disposed within the interior of the socket. The second hub is disposed outside the interior of the socket. An air conduit extends through the hub assembly that enables air to be drawn into the socket and/or vented from the socket. An inflatable interface is disposed within the socket. The inflatable interface receives air through the air conduit in the hub assembly. The inflatable interface is capable of filling any gaps that may exist between a limb liner being worn by an amputee and the socket.

Vacuum pump systems for prosthetic limbs and methods of using the same

Pump systems for use in suspension of a prosthetic device from a residual limb and methods of suspending a prosthetic device from a residual limb are disclosed. The pump systems include a mechanically activated pump having a first compression member coupled to a second compression member, a compressible bladder disposed between the first and second compression members, and coupling elements that engage and couple together the first and second compression members. The mechanically activated pump may be connected with an electrically activated pump within a fluid circuit of a hybrid pump system to provide vacuum engagement between a prosthetic device and a residual limb.
