A DEVICE FOR ENHANCING A SUBJECT'S GRASPING CAPABILITY

A device for enhancing a user's grasping capability comprises a belt-like support configured to be tightly fitted about a user's part of the body; an articulated gripping element having a plurality of phalanxes: proximal, fixed to the support, intermediate and distal, which are articulated to each other by articular joints; a motor unit fixed to the support; a winding drum; a tendon partially wound on the drum and extending along the phalanxes and the joints, arranged so that, by pulling it from the drum, the phalanxes rotate about respective articular joints and move the articulated gripping element from an extended position to a gripping bow-shaped position, causing a flexion/extension movement of the articulated gripping element, the joints configured so that by releasing the tendon from the drum, the phalanxes rotate about the respective joints and move the articulated gripping element between gripping bow-shaped position and extended position.

Adjustable socket system

An adjustable socket system includes first and second shell components and first and second longitudinal supports connected to a base. The socket system is movable between an open configuration to loosen the fit of the socket system, and a closed configuration to secure the fit of the socket system on residual limb received therein. A tightening system includes a tensioning unit having a handle defining a moment arm rotatable about a rotation axis, and a tensioning element operatively coupled to the handle via a movable connection point located and protected between the first shell component and the first support and to the shell components via a control point. Rotation of the handle displaces the movable connection point and the tensioning element relative to the control point to move the socket system to the closed configuration.

UPPER ARM PROSTHETIC APPARATUS AND SYSTEMS

Various aspects of upper arm prosthetic system for a human subject having a body and a partial arm are described. According to one aspect, the system may comprise any one or more of a force amplification apparatus, a terminal unit apparatus, and/or an adjustable elbow apparatus. Each apparatus may be body-powered and/or comprise 3D printable structures. Related upper arm prosthetic apparatus, kits, methods, and systems also are described.

Connector apparatus to secure a residual limb liner to a distal prosthetic member

A connector apparatus for securing a liner disposed around a residual limb of a user to a distal prosthetic member is provided. The apparatus includes a body member having a roller rotatably mounted to a side wall in a slot in the body member, a socket disposed around the body member and having an opening aligned with the slot of the body member, and a strap having a first end coupled to the liner. The socket facilitates attachment of the distal prosthetic member to the body member. The strap extends through the slot in the body member against the first roller and through the opening in the socket. The strap continues to extend along an exterior surface of the socket and is attached to itself, thereby securing the liner to the distal prosthetic member.

A system for powering a prosthetic arm is disclosed. The system includes at least one internal battery located in the prosthetic arm, at least one external battery connected to the prosthetic arm, and a master controller configured to connect either the at least one internal battery or the at least one external battery to a power bus to power the prosthetic arm.

Bidirectional biomechanical prosthetic full finger configured for abduction and adduction with MCP pivot and multiple-finger ring

The disclosure provides apparatus and methods of use pertaining to a bidirectional biomechanical prosthetic finger assembly. One embodiment includes a metacarpophalangeal (MCP) pivot configured for swivelable attachment to a hand of a user, a distal coupler, and an articulation assembly rotatively coupled therebetween. A multiple-finger ring configured to receive a user's residual finger and at least one adjacent finger is disposed upon the articulation assembly, and may be adjusted to a target location based on a length of the residual finger. The articulation assembly is configured to utilize vertical movements of the residual and/or adjacent finger(s) within the multiple-finger ring to articulate the distal coupler within a plane parallel to an x-z plane, and the MCP pivot is configured to utilize lateral movements of the residual finger within the ring to articulate the distal coupler within a plane parallel to an x-y plane. Other embodiments are also disclosed.

An adjustable prosthesis system for a residual limb includes: an adjustable outer shell surrounding the residual limb having a plurality of overlapping flaps, a top opening along a top edge extending around the outer shell, a bottom having a bottom edge opposite the top edge and extending around the bottom, a first side, and a second side having an adjustable width, and a plurality of adjustable overlapping side ends, some of which overlap and some do not, extending from the top edge to the bottom edge; a base adjacent the bottom of the outer shell and connected to it; and a closure component attached to the outer shell to compress the residual limb. Tightening the closure component applies a pulling force to at least one of the first side and the second side, thereby causing a reduction in width of a discontinuity and increased overlap of the side ends.
