A passenger detector identifies biometric information of a passenger on board a vehicle from a video captured by a camera that captures the inside of the cabin of the vehicle and specifies the boarding position of the passenger. A determiner determines whether or not a mobile terminal associated with the biometric information identified by the passenger detector is in a state of being connectable by near field communication. In a case where there is a plurality of mobile terminals determined by the determiner to be in a state of being connectable by near field communication, a decider decides a mobile terminal to be connected by near field communication on the basis of boarding positions of a plurality of passengers specified by a plurality of pieces of biometric information associated with the plurality of mobile terminals. A communication controller connects the mobile terminal decided by the decider and the vehicle device by near field communication.

CAMERA-BASED IN-CABIN OBJECT LOCALIZATION
20230013133 · 2023-01-19 ·

Performing object localization inside a cabin of a vehicle is provided. A camera image is received of a cabin of a vehicle by an image sensor at a first location with respect to a plurality of seating zones of a vehicle. Object detection on the camera image is performed to identify one or more objects in the camera image. A machine-learning model trained on images taken at the first location is utilized to place the one or more objects into the seating zones of the vehicle according to a plurality of bounding boxes corresponding to the plurality of seating zones for the first location.

VEHICLE AND METHOD OF CONTROLLING THE SAME

A vehicle and control method include: a seat; an image acquirer to acquire an image of the seat; a first type of roof airbag module in a fixed position in a first area of a headlining; a rail member in a second area of the headlining in a left-right direction of a vehicle body; a second type of roof airbag module in the rail member and movable in left and right directions along the rail member; an angle detector to detect a rotation angle of the seat; and a controller. The controller identifies the seat rotation angle based on the image of the seat and controls activation of at least the first type of roof airbag module or the second type of roof airbag module based on at least the seat rotation angle based on the image of the seat or detected by the angle detector.

Methods and Systems for Determining a State Indicating Whether a Seat Belt of a Vehicle is Used
20230222814 · 2023-07-13 ·

The present disclosure relates to methods and systems for determining a state indicating whether a seat belt of a vehicle is used. A computer implemented method for determining a state indicating whether a seat belt of a vehicle is used comprises: acquiring at least one image of a portion of an interior of the vehicle; determining whether the at least one image comprises a buckle receiver; if it is determined that the at least one image comprises the buckle receiver, determining the state based on the image, and otherwise performing: extracting, from the acquired image, information related to a user of the seat belt and/or information related to a buckle of the seat belt; determining a probability of a change of the state based on the extracted information, and updating the state based on the determined probability.

VEHICLE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION USING RADAR POINT CLOUD
20230219578 · 2023-07-13 · ·

A system comprises a computer having a processor and a memory, the memory storing instructions executable by the processor to access sensor data from one or more imaging radar sensors of a vehicle, identify, based on the sensor data, a radar point cloud corresponding to an occupant of the vehicle, analyze the radar point cloud to determine an occupant classification of the occupant, determine an operating parameter for a feature of the vehicle based on the occupant classification, and implement the operating parameter for the feature.

Vehicle occupancy verification utilizing occupancy confirmation

The present invention is a method and system to verify carpool occupancy compliance for access to High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes, High Occupancy or Toll (HOT) lanes, or other vehicle-occupancy contingent rewards. The present invention uses software and hardware devices with radio-frequency transmitter modules to capture one or more photo images of vehicle occupants and to perform boxed headcounts of humans in any given photo frame. The present invention uses biometric signature detection to confirm the boxed headcounts and a realness algorithm to further confirm the genuineness of any human image. Occupancy compliance can be communicated directly to an appropriate regulatory body.

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR DRIVER POSTURE MONITORING
20230001930 · 2023-01-05 ·

Various systems and methods are provided for determining a posture of an occupant of a vehicle. In one embodiment, a method comprises capturing images of an occupant in a vehicle via a vehicle camera, determining a current posture of the occupant and a recommended posture for the occupant based on the captured images and body measurements of the occupant, and outputting a guidance based on a difference between the current posture and the recommended posture. In this way, a comfort of the occupant may be increased by guiding the occupant toward a more ergonomic posture.

VEHICLE FOR IDENTIFYING SEATING OF PASSENGER AND OPERATING METHOD THEREOF

A vehicle includes a first sensor for sensing a first image, a second sensor for sensing a second image, and a processor that is configured to generate seating information of a passenger based on the first image, and generate posture information of the passenger with the generated seating information based on at least one of the first image or the second image.

Provided is a vehicle control system and vehicle control method. The vehicle control system includes: one or more image sensors disposed on a vehicle to have a field of view of an inside of the vehicle and configured to capture image data and process the captured image data; and a controller configured to control the vehicle according to a state of a child existing in the vehicle on the basis of the image data.

Back seat detection systems and methods
11544941 · 2023-01-03 · ·

A method and system for detecting one or more living beings in a vehicle. An indication that the engine is off is received via on on-board diagnostics (OBD) device. Whether a first living being is in the front seat area is determined, and whether a second living being is in the back seat area is determined. In response to a determination that a first living being is not in the front seat area and a second living being is in the back seat area, a first temperature reading for a first temperature inside the vehicle is received and a second temperature reading for a second temperature outside the vehicle is received. A delta between the first temperature and the second temperature is computed. If the delta is less than a first threshold, then an alert is sent via the OBD device to a computing device associated with a user.
