METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR TEXT IDENTIFICATION AND EXTRACTION WITHIN IMAGES USING MACHINE LEARNING PROCESSES
20230401877 · 2023-12-14 ·

This application related to automatic processes for identifying and extracting information from images of documents of varying layouts. For example, a computing device may receive an image of a document, where the image includes a plurality of color channels. The computing device applies a character recognition process to the image to generate optical character recognition data. Further, the computing device determines an area of the image that includes one or more characters based on the optical character recognition data. The computing device adjusts a value of each of a plurality of pixels corresponding to the area of the image determined for each character based on a value of each corresponding character to generate a modified image. The computing device then applies a trained machine learning process to the modified image to generate output data. The output data characterizes characters, such as words and number values, within the original image.

According to one embodiment, a reading system includes a processing device. The processing device includes an extractor, a line thinner, a setter, and an identifier. The extractor extracts a partial image from an input image. A character of a segment display is imaged in the partial image. The segment display includes a plurality of segments. The line thinner thins a cluster of pixels representing a character in the partial image. The setter sets, in the partial image, a plurality of determination regions corresponding respectively to the plurality of segments. The identifier detects a number of pixels included in the thinned cluster for each of the plurality of determination regions, and identifies the character based on a detection result.

METHODS AND APPATUS FOR USING WIDE AREA NETWORKS TO SUPPORT PARKING SYSTEMS
20210287032 · 2021-09-16 ·

A customer premises parking system including one or more cameras and wireless communications transmission capability is described. The presence of a vehicle with a license plate at an entrance or exit of a parking area is detected and one or more high resolution images are captured and time stamped. A license plate portion of the HD image is captured and stored. The license plate number and corresponding time is determined and communicated using a wide area wireless network. The HD license plate portion of the image is processed to produce a low resolution version of the license plate image which is segmented and processed into fragments which are transmitted via the wide area network using available transmission opportunities. A high resolution version of the license plate portion is stored at the premises where the parking facilitate is located and can be retrieved via a cellular wireless interface in the event of a dispute or discrepancy with regard to the detected and reported license plate number. From the time stamps associated with entrance and exit images of license plates the amount of time and/or date at which a vehicle was present at the parking garage is determined and the vehicle owner billed for the use of the parking facility.

In the present disclosure, a candidate area is determined based on a pixel having a specific color included in an input image, and an area is determined to be a processing target from the candidate area based on a pixel having a predetermined color different from the specific color included in the candidate area. Further, a second binary image in which a pixel corresponding to the pixel having the specific color is converted into a white pixel is generated by converting, in a first binary image obtained by the input image being binarized, a pixel that is included in the area determined to be the processing target and corresponds to the pixel having the specific color, into a white pixel.
