A package measurement apparatus according to an embodiment includes a housing having a first surface that supports a package to be placed thereon and a second surface above the first surface. A touch panel display is mounted on the second surface and is positioned facing upward. A camera is positioned to capture an image of the package when the package is placed on the first surface and configured to generate image data corresponding to the captured image.

Calibrating a volume dimensioner

Systems and methods for calibrating a volume dimensioner are provided. In one embodiment, a calibrating system comprises a dimensioner and a reference object. The dimensioner is configured to remotely sense characteristics of an object and calculate physical dimensions of the object from the sensed characteristics. The reference object has predefined physical dimensions and an outside surface that exhibits a pattern of reference markings. The dimensioner is configured to be calibrated using the reference object as a basis for comparison.

Apparatus for determining the thickness of a mail item

An apparatus for determining the thickness of passing mail items M conveyed on a conveying deck (12) of a mail processing machine (10) comprising a deflecting element (18) which is positioned to successively contact without active compression each conveyed mail item, measures a parameter that indicates a change in a resistivity of the deflecting element, and generates a signal indicative of the measured parameter; and a processing unit (24) which receives the signal from the deflecting element and determines a thickness value for each conveyed mail item based on the measured parameter.

CALIBRATING A DIMENSIONER USING RATIOS OF MEASURABLE PARAMETERS OF OPTICALLY-PERCEPTIBLE GEOMETRIC ELEMENTS
20180165824 · 2018-06-14 ·

Systems and methods for calibrating a volume dimensioner are provided. In one embodiment, a calibration system comprises a predefined reference pattern comprising a plurality of optically-perceptible elements. The optically-perceptible elements have predefined measurable parameters and are separated from each other by predefined distances. The calibration system also comprises a dimensioner configured to capture an image of an object and calculate physical dimensions of the object from at least the captured image. The dimensioner is further configured to capture one or more images of the predefined reference pattern and calculate a ratio between one of the predefined measurable parameters and one of the predefined distances. The dimensioner is further configured to be calibrated based on the calculated ratio.

A method is disclosed. The method includes causing the opening of a lockable measuring module. The method includes obtaining at least one measurement parameter of a shipment deposited in the measuring module. The method includes providing, at least partially based on the obtained at least one measurement parameter, measurement information. The measurement information represents at least one weight and/or size of the shipment deposited in the measuring module. The at least one shipping option for shipping the shipment is determined at least partially based on the provided measurement information.

Method for Determining Fee For Sending a Mailing
20180114374 · 2018-04-26 ·

Example aspects of the present disclosure relate to a method for determining a fee for sending a mailing, comprising the steps of: a) determining the weight and/or the volume of the mailing, b) selecting a three-dimensional body corresponding to the weight and/or the volume of the mailing, c) projecting the three-dimensional body onto the mailing, d) checking whether the three-dimensional body can enclose the mailing, e) if the three-dimensional body cannot enclose the mailing, selecting a larger three-dimensional body and repeating steps c) and d), f) if the three-dimensional body can enclose the mailing, determining the fee for sending the mailing in dependence on the determined weight and/or the volume and the selected three-dimensional body.

AUTOMATIC PARCEL STORAGE BOX SYSTEM AND MANAGEMENT METHOD THEREOF
20180114256 · 2018-04-26 ·

Provided is an unmanned mail/courier management system and method which can unmannedly receive a delivery of mail or a courier item, and can unmannedly store and receive a delivered mail or courier item. The system invention provides a configuration that enables a work, which is performed for unmanned reception and storage through interworking between an unmanned reception machine and a management server through a network in the art, to be input through and processed by a user terminal, and thus, does not require construction of a network for interworking with the management server in the unmanned reception machine for implementation thereof, thereby enabling easy installation of the unmanned reception machine, and minimizing a standby time by omitting a procedure of directly inputting in the unmanned reception machine.

Scene change detection in a dimensioner

A package dimensioner is disclosed. A change in the pose of the package dimensioner is detected by background modeling the area of a measurement platform and then determining if a number of points in a scene are different in distance from the background model. Change in the pose can also be detected by comparing a count of support points in a 3D container generated from images taken in a training process with a count of support points in a subsequent images and determining how many support points are different.

DIMENSIONING SYSTEM

A terminal for measuring at least one dimension of an object includes a range camera, a visible camera, and a display that are fixed in position and orientation relative to each other. The range camera is configured to produce a range image of an area in which the object is located. The visible camera is configured to produce a visible image of an area in which the object is located. The display is configured to present information associated with the range camera's field of view and the visible camera's field of view.
