An orthopedic support and/or treatment system including a brace or sleeve comprising a power subsystem; a sensor subsystem; an adjustment mechanism; a software subsystem; a communication subsystem; and a telemedicine subsystem. The orthopedic treatment system includes and communicates over a network to a remote controlling device. The remote control device can be a computer, a mobile device, or any other controller. The sensor subsystem communicates to the remote control device, which in turn can be used to control the adjustment mechanism to adjust a tension or compression of the brace or sleeve.

Brace and tension springs for a brace

A brace for augmenting extension of a user's limb about a joint comprises an upper arm pivotably attached to a lower arm. At least one compression element is attached to at least one of the upper and lower arms, and a substantially inelastic tensioning element is affixed to the other of the upper and lower arms over at least one tensioning member. Applying a force to bend the brace to a flexed position loads the compression element, and upon removal of the flexing force the compression element applies a restoring force to urge the brace back to the extended position. The compression element may comprise a hydraulic tension spring comprising at least one cylinder having a sealed portion defining a liquid containment space, and a piston comprising a compressing portion having a smaller diameter than the cylinder and extending axially through a hydraulic seal into the liquid containment space. A guide for maintaining the piston oriented axially relative to the frame maintains piston alignment so that when the frame is fixed in place and tension is applied to the tensioning member, the compressing portion of the piston rod intrudes further into the liquid containment space, compressing the hydraulic fluid and loading the spring.

ORTHOPEDIC DEVICE, STRAP SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR SECURING THE SAME

An orthopedic device includes a frame, a strap system including first and second straps connecting to the frame, and an adjustment mechanism couples to the first and second straps and simultaneously regulates tension in the first and second straps by moving the first and second straps relative to the frame. The strap system includes a length adjustment system for modifying the length of the strap.

FLEXION AND EXTENSION RANGE LIMITING HINGE FOR AN ORTHOPEDIC BRACE
20170340471 · 2017-11-30 ·

An angle limitation system for an orthopedic brace employs a hinge assembly rotatably receiving an upper strut and a lower strut and having a hinge plate and a hinge assembly cap. An extension angle limit element is removably insertable in an anterior port between the hinge plate and hinge assembly cap. The extension angle limit element has a body with limiting surfaces adapted to engage mating faces indented in the anterior edges of the upper and lower strut. A flexion angle limit element is removably insertable in a posterior port between the hinge plate and hinge assembly cap. The flexion angle limit element has a body with limiting surfaces adapted to engage mating faces indented in the posterior edges of the upper and lower strut. Engagement mechanisms are adapted to releasably secure the flexion angle limit element in the posterior port and the engagement angle limit element in the anterior port.

ADAPTIVE COMPRESSION THERAPY SYSTEMS AND METHODS

Systems, devices and methods for providing active and/or passive compression therapy to a body part can include a compression device worn over a compression stocking. The compression device can have a pulley based drive train that is driven by a motor to tighten and loosen compression elements, such as compression straps, in a precise, rapid, and balanced manner. Sensors can be used in the compression device and/or compression stockings to provide feedback to modulate the compression treatment parameters.

PATIENT LIFT ORTHOSIS

A patient lift orthosis system including an input controller and at least one orthosis. The at least one orthosis including an upper orthosis assembly and a lower orthosis assembly rotatably attached to the upper orthosis assembly via a joint. The at least one orthosis further including an output controller attached to at least one of the upper orthosis assembly, the lower orthosis assembly, and the joint, the output controller being in communication with the input controller. The at least one orthosis further including an actuator attached to at least one of the upper orthosis assembly, the lower orthosis assembly, and the joint, the actuator being in communication with the output controller. The output controller is configured to actuate the actuator to rotate one of the upper orthosis assembly and the lower orthosis assembly about the joint based upon an input communicated from the input controller.

CLOSURE DEVICES INCLUDING INCREMENTAL RELEASE MECHANISMS AND METHODS THEREFOR

According to an embodiment, a device for tightening an article includes a housing, a spool rotatably positioned within the housing, a knob operably coupled with the spool to cause the spool to rotate within the housing, and a stop mechanism. The device is configured so that incremental rotation of the knob in a first direction causes a corresponding incremental rotation of the spool within the housing that incrementally tensions a tension member and thereby tightens the article. The device is also configured so that incremental rotation of the knob in a second direction causes a corresponding incremental rotation of the spool that incrementally loosens the tension member's tension. The stop mechanism is configured to prevent rotation of the spool in the second direction when the tension member's tension achieves or falls below a tension threshold.

Progressive strap assembly for use with an orthopedic device

A progressive strap assembly includes an elongate, inelastic body having first and second ends, and an elastic body having first and second ends, the first end of the elastic body anchored to the second end of the inelastic body. The elastic body is arranged to stretch a plurality of lengths and has a maximum stretchable length. A tension limiter is connected to the first and second ends of the elastic body and is arranged to inhibit a predetermined stretchable length of the elastic body short of the maximum stretchable length.
