Active assist orthotic

An elbow brace is retrofitted to provide a motor-hinged orthotic elbow brace that stabilizes the elbow of a user and provides assisted motion to prevent or reduce buildup of scar tissue and maintain the range of motion of the elbow. A user interface is coupled to the brace for tracking exercises and the angle of the elbow brace. The orthotic elbow brace can also assist the patient in moving the arm at one or more predetermined angles according to physician instructions.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR THE REDUCTION OF FORCES ACTING ON AN ARM OF A HUMAN
20210315762 · 2021-10-14 ·

A system having an arrangement for supporting an arm of a user is disclosed. The arrangement has an actuator, which is connected to a shoulder element by a joint chain. The joint chain is designed to extend along the shoulder blade of a shoulder of the user and to introduce vertically acting forces into the shoulder element. Moreover, the joint chain is guided by a flexible structure that extends over the shoulder of the user. By virtue of the deformability of the flexible structure, it is possible to ensure that a lifting of the shoulder, resulting from a lifting of a hand of the user, is not impeded.

Elbow orthosis

An orthosis for stretching tissue around a joint of a patient between first and second relatively pivotable body portions. The orthosis includes a first arm member affixable to the first body portion and including a first extension member extending therefrom. A second arm member affixable to the second body portion is also included and has a second extension member having an arcuate shape extending therefrom. A third arm member including a third extension member having an arcuate shape extending therefrom is interposed between the first and second arm members. The third arm member is operatively connected to the first and second arm members, such that the first and third arm members travel along an arcuate path defined by the second extension member when the third arm member is moved from a first position to a second position relative to the second arm member. Furthermore, the first arm member can slide along the third extension member as the third arm member is moved from the first position to the second position relative to the second arm member.
