A payment reader and a POS terminal may communicate over a wireless connection. The methods and systems include monitoring one or more parameters corresponding to a payment reader and another device in proximity to POS terminal. The POS terminal, through a set of customized instructions, determines whether behavior of the second device substantially corresponds to the first device, in order to detect suspected hardware or software intrusion associated with the secure device. On successful detection of a suspected intrusion, the POS terminal generates an alert for a user of the first device if illegal intrusion is suspected by the processor.

Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) allow banking customers to conveniently make certain financial transactions. Typically, customers access ATMs through the use of an electronically encoded ATM-card with a magnetic strip or microchip that encodes customer account information. As a security measure, accessing a bank account at an ATM typically requires a personal identification number (PIN) that must be entered into the ATM key pad in order to initiate a transaction. Electronic devices, known as skimming devices, are capable of collecting bank account and PIN information unbeknownst to ATM customers. Skimming devices are applied onto, near or over an ATM card readers, and are often indistinguishable from the ATM card reader. When an ATM user attempts to access their bank account, the skimming devices record their bank account and PIN information. Armed with the bank account and PIN information, thieves are able to illegally access customer accounts and defraud banks. The anti-skimming device of the present invention offers an elegant approach to prevent illegal access to sensitive customer account information. Applying the anti-skimming device of the instant invention functions to ATMs helps to prevent illegal collection of account and PIN information from unsuspecting bank customers.

Organic light emitting diode (“OLED”) travel card

Aspects of the invention relate to a smart check that includes an OLED display. The smart check may store data associated with multiple purchasing instruments and utilize the OLED display to present sensitive data associated with a user selected purchasing instrument. In response to the selection, the smart check may transmit sensitive data associated with the selected purchasing instrument. The smart check may receive power when it is inserted into a card reader. Inserting the smart check into the card reader may launch an application stored on the smart check. The smart check may store a value. The value may be converted into a currency associated with a location of the smart check.

The invention relates to blocking fraudulent gathering of credit card and debit card information during a legitimate payment transaction at a credit/debit card reader. The invention includes the installation, preferably in a non-uniform manner, of blockers onto one or more faces or surfaces of the card reader. Properly installed blockers will tend to prevent the easy installation of a flush mounted skimmer device that is designed to overlay the legitimate card reader at a store or point of sale location such as a gasoline pump.

Detecting unauthorized card skimmers

In an example embodiment, an automated banking machine that includes an anti-fraud arrangement that can deter effective operation of unauthorized devices attached to the machine. The arrangement allows for the machine's card slot bezel to be frequently exchanged for a differently configured card slot bezel, where the bezel configuration is displayed to a potential user.

FINANCIAL DEVICE AND METHOD OF CONTROLLING FINANCIAL DEVICE
