According to one embodiment, an information processing device includes a processing circuit having programmed instructions to: determine a cart location of a shopping cart that is moved by a customer and used for transportation of a merchandise purchased by the customer; and provide a notification for promoting a return of the shopping cart to a return area for returning the shopping cart in response to a determination that (i) the shopping cart is located in a place outside of the return area and (ii) a stay time of the shopping cart at the place outside the return area exceeds a threshold length of time.

An object is to provide a commodity registration apparatus capable of, even when a plurality of customers use one shopping cart together, enabling each of the customers to know the share of the total price he/she needs to individually pay. A commodity registration apparatus according to the present invention includes: a reading unit configured to read commodity identification information for identifying a commodity; an image pickup unit configured to photograph a customer who has made the reading unit read the commodity identification information; and a control unit configured to identify the customer, store the identified customer and commodity information corresponding to the commodity identification information in a storage unit while associating them with each other, receive an input made through an operation performed on an input unit by the customer, and output the customer and the commodity information to an output unit while associating them with each other.

Various embodiments are directed to overlaying relevant product information in augmented reality via the use of near-field communication (NFC) and a product selection system. A user may authenticate into an application or user profile. Information about the user in the user profile may be used to determine which products are relevant to the user. Information related to the relevant products may then be displayed to the user in augmented reality, which improves at least the overall shopping and in-store experience.

An information processing device in a POS system in which a commodity can be registered and a payment request can be issued using a mobile terminal operated by a customer, includes a memory that stores flag data indicating a first value indicating that none of registered commodities requires confirmation by a store clerk when payment is made or a second value indicating that at least one registered commodity requires the confirmation, and a processor configured to, when a transaction is started, initialize the flag data to the first value, upon receipt of a request for registering a commodity, determine whether the commodity requires the confirmation, upon determining that the commodity requires the confirmation, update the flag data to the second value, and upon receipt of a payment request, when the flag data indicates the second value, issue a notification for notifying a store clerk that confirmation is required.

A non-transitory computer-readable recording medium having stored therein an information processing program that causes a computer to execute a process including specifying, a first image area which includes a person who visits a store and a second image area which includes a container containing commodity products, specifying, positional relationship between each of a plurality of persons belonging to a first group and a specific machine placed in the store, identifying, from among the plurality of persons belonging to the first group, a first person who use the specific machine based on the positional relationship, specifying, a second person who carries the container in which the commodity products are contained from among the plurality of persons belonging to the first group, and performing authentication processing of the commodity products contained in the container carried by the second person has been completed.

A non-transitory computer-readable recording medium stores therein an information processing program that causes a computer to execute a process including, specifying, from a plurality of images taken by one or more camera devices, a person who visits a store and a first object that contains one or more first commodity products and is used by the person, specifying, from the plurality of images, a location of the person in the store, specifying, based on the location of the person and a location of each of a plurality of terminals in the store, a first terminal in which the person uses from among the plurality of terminals, associating the one or more first commodity products contained in the first object with the first terminal, and performing authentication processing of the one or more first commodity products contained in the first object by using the certificate information.

A sales data processing system includes a first reader that reads a code symbol as a visible image included in image information output by an imaging unit, a second reader that reads a code symbol as an invisible image in the image information, and a third reader that recognizes a service image in the image information. The system includes a registrar that registers information as sales data on a commodity identified by the code symbol read by the first or second reader, and a standby processor that suspends reading by the second reader and waits for recognition of a service image by the third reader in response to a commodity being identified by the code symbol read by the second reader. Methods of detecting scan avoidance events when items are passed through a field of view (FOV) of a scanner are disclosed herein. An example method, during a decode session, receiving, at one or more processors of the symbology reader, an image of an object; during a timeout period, detecting, at the one or more processors, an indicia in the image of the object, the indicia having a decodable payload; during the timeout period, attempting to decode the indicia to identify the decodable payload, at the one or more processors; and after the timeout period expires, when at least one portion but less than all portions of the indicia is decodable, determining a potential scan avoidance attempt and generating a scan avoidance alarm signal.

A system for generating a shopping checkout list of items selected by a shopper in a store including: in-store security cameras; a cart scanner and a cart analyzer configured to generate a shopping checkout list based on the data received from the cart scanner; and a shopping list builder (SLB) configured to record images from the security cameras of the shopper's activity in the store to form recorded images, wherein, when the SLB requires verification of an item in the generated shopping checkout list, the SLB is further configured to analyze the recorded images to determine selection of an item by a shopper to thereby verify the item on the shopping checkout list.
