Floating apparatus for alerting people of the presence of voltage in water

A floating apparatus for alerting people of the presence of voltage in water. When the floating apparatus is placed in water and in an active state, it detects when at least a threshold level of voltage is present in the water and generates an alert signal in response to detecting the threshold level of voltage is present. The floating apparatus may detect the threshold level of voltage is present without requiring that a ground wire be connected between an electrical circuit of the floating apparatus and a fixed structure exterior of the water such as soil surrounding the water.

HAND HELD PROBE FOR DETECTING THE PRESENCE OF VOLTAGE IN BODIES OF WATER

A hand held probe (200) for detecting voltage in a body of water includes voltage sensors (VS) installed in a probe head (204) with each sensor separately sensing a voltage present in the water and supplying an electrical output signal representative of the voltage level. A processor (206) processes the signals and produces an output representing a voltage gradient, a resultant electrical current, and a direction of current flow. A multiplexer (214) interposed between the sensors and processor transmits signals from the sensors to the processor in a predetermined sequence. Results of the processing including any voltage gradient, the resultant electrical current, and the direction of current flow are displayed and this information is used to determine if a currently dangerous or potentially dangerous condition exists in the water, and if a voltage is present in the water, its source.

The current invention relates to a device fixedly attached in a body of water such as a swimming pool for the detection of an unwanted electrical current in the water.

Systems for sensing pool occupants and regulating pool functions

An ultrasonic pool occupant sensing device capable of using ultrasonic pulses to analyze the occupancy level of a swimming pool. An ultrasonic transducer sends and receives ultrasonic pulses. A front end electronics has a driver for controlling the transducer, a pre-amplifier, band-pass filter, and amplifier combination for filtering received signals. The digital processing unit contains a timer unit for generating pulses, an AD converter for digitizing received pulses, a signal processor for determining data about the return pulse, and an I/O unit for transmitting data to the central processing unit. The data may be an estimate of the number of people in the sensor range, or it may be data about the return pulse that can be analyzed by the central processing unit.

Predictive shock alert warning system for use in bodies of water

A predictive shock alert warning system (SA) installed adjacent a body of water and monitoring a voltage level present in the water to alert persons in or about the water the water when the level is approaching, or reaches or exceeds a threshold that will produce a dangerous shock to a person. The system comprises a plurality of probes (1-3) placed in the water, each probe monitoring the voltage level in a zone (Z1-Z3) of water surrounding the probe and producing an output representing the voltage level for the respective zone in which the sensor is placed. An apparatus (100) processes the respective signals from each probe and triggers an alarm (13) when a voltage approaches, reaches or exceeds the danger voltage level.
