ARTIFICIAL STOMA DEVICE
An artificial stoma device adapted to be installed in an abdomen includes a solid unit and a hollow unit. The solid unit includes a blocking member adapted to block off a downstream section of an intestine in the abdomen. The hollow unit is detachably connected to the solid unit, and includes a conduit having a guiding space that has opposite first and second open ends adapted to be disposed respectively at an upstream section of the intestine and an opening of a skin tissue of the abdomen, and an anti-blocking structure formed on an inner surrounding surface of the conduit for preventing the upstream section of the intestine from entering and blocking the guiding space via the second open end during peristalsis of the intestine.
Prosthesis for enterostomy patients
The prosthesis for enterostomy patients comprises: a tubular element of elongated shape and insertable substantially to size inside of a stoma made on the abdominal wall of a patient; a first obstruction means to obstruct at least one area of the stoma, associated with a first end of the tubular element and movable between a restricted configuration and an enlarged configuration to allow the insertion/extraction into/from the stoma respectively, and to prevent leakage of feces from the stoma itself; a first through duct made on the tubular element, communicating with the first obstruction balloon and having valve connectable to a forced introduction/extraction disposable syringe for conduction of a fluid into/from the first obstruction balloon; a second through duct made on the tubular element, communicating with the inside of the stoma and having an active carbon filter for the outflow of gases from the stoma itself; and an external retaining element associated with a second end of the tubular element opposite to the first end and able to cooperate with at least one portion of the abdominal wall and having at least two through holes arranged at the first duct and the second duct; in which at least one of the tubular element and the retaining element is made at least partially of a flexible material.
Medical device with an opening system
Described herein is a medical device with an opening system. The medical device is foldable from an open to a closed condition. It is secured in its closed condition. In certain embodiments, the medical device is an ostomy pouch.
APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR RECEIVING DISCHARGED URINE
A system suitable for collecting and transporting urine away from the body of a person or animal may include an assembly having a fluid impermeable casing having a fluid reservoir at a first end, a fluid outlet at a second end, and a longitudinally extending fluid impermeable layer coupled to the fluid reservoir and the fluid outlet and defining a longitudinally elongated opening between the reservoir and the outlet. The assembly can further include a fluid permeable support disposed within the casing with a portion extending across the elongated opening, and a fluid permeable membrane disposed on the support and covering at least the portion of the support that extends across the elongated opening, so that the membrane is supported on the support and disposed across the elongated opening. The assembly can further include a tube having a first end disposed in the reservoir and a second, fluid discharge end.
APPARATUS AND METHODS OF USING AN INTRA-VAGINAL FLUID COLLECTION DEVICE
Arrangements described herein relate to a device for collecting intravaginal fluid. The device is defined by a hollow collector and a flexible fluid collection bag, wherein the device is configured such that when inserted into the vagina, the hollow collector forms a seal with the inner walls of the vagina, while the fluid collection bag extends outside the body. By allowing fluid to collect outside the body rather than inside the, the device is permitted to be narrow in diameter (such as, for example, the diameter of a tampon), to increase user comfort. Flaps at the opening of the hollow collector may be used to seal fluid within the device when it is extracted from the body.
LID FOR AN OSTOMY IMPLANT
A lid for an ostomy implant comprises: attachment means for attachment to the implant; and an opening part. The opening part is arranged such that it can be opened and closed while the lid is attached to the implant.
Nutrient recycling device
A nutrient recycling device is provided that is configured to collect digestive contents from a first opening of a gastrointestinal (GI) tract and recycle and/or return the digestive contents to a second location in a patient's gastrointestinal tract. The device and associated method may find application in patients with a number of complaints, such as short bowel syndrome and/or prior to stoma reversal surgery. The device comprises a bag adapted to receive the digestive contents from a first GI opening, and a pump incorporated with the bag adapted to pump the digestive contents to a second GI location. The pump includes an inlet in fluid communication with the interior of the bag, and an outlet connected to an outlet conduit adapted to provide a flow pathway for the digestive content to flow from the pump to second GI location.
Retractable outlet for ostomy pouch
A drainable ostomy pouch (10) includes a collection pouch (12) having a collection cavity (20), a retractable outlet (14) movable between a first position retracted substantially into the collection cavity and a second position extending outwardly from the collection cavity, a discharge opening (30) formed at a distal end of the retractable outlet and a closure (22) configured to selectively allow or prevent discharge of a waste material from the collection cavity or the retractable outlet.
OSTOMY APPLIANCE
An ostomy appliance comprises:
inner and outer walls of flexible sheet material joined together to define a cavity for containing a stomal output, the inner wall comprising an inlet for receiving the stomal output into the cavity; and
a retractable drain being slidably movable between an extended configuration for draining the stomal output from the cavity and a retracted configuration for storage of the retractable drain;
wherein the retractable drain comprises a closure portion which may be turned up to close an outlet opening of the retractable drain and a first fastener configured to fasten the closure portion in place once turned up.
The closure portion may be operable to be turned up and fastened while the retractable drain is in the extended configuration; the retractable drain may be configured such that after fastening of the closure portion in the extended configuration, the retractable drain is slidably moveable into the retracted configuration; the closure portion may comprise a folding portion which is foldable to close an outlet opening of the drain; and/or the first fastener may comprise a pull tab for gripping by the user to slide the retractable drain from the retracted configuration to the extended configuration.
External Catheter
An external catheter is provided. The external catheter has a planar base having a central aperture therethrough. A back surface of the planar base has an adhesive material that be used to removably secure the planar base of the device to the skin of a user. A tubular member is disposed on the front side of the planar base about the central aperture. The tubular member is composed of materials that enable fluid to be stored therein without leaking. A vent is disposed on the front surface of the tubular member to enable air to flow and reduce moisture in the area. A sealable drain located at a terminal end of the tubular member enables the fluid to be drained from the tubular member. The device can be used to capture and store bodily fluids and is especially useful for people who experience urinary incontinence.
