System and method for improved updating and annunciation of traffic enforcement camera information in a vehicle using a broadcast content delivery service
An enhanced broadcast data service with reports locations of traffic enforcement camera locations (e.g., red light cameras and speed cameras) to users. Traffic enforcement camera information is aggregated, verified (e.g., particularly as to traffic enforcement camera type) and stored (e.g., at a server). A broadcast signal comprising program channels and at least one data channel having traffic enforcement camera information is transmitted to a plurality of receivers. Receivers store at least a subset of the traffic enforcement camera information available from the server and synchronize to it using periodic transmitted updates. Receivers compare receiver location data with stored camera location data, and display or generate audible alerts when the receiver is within a selected geographic range of a traffic enforcement camera. Alerts can be filtered as to camera type. A alerts can employ different color camera icons superimposed on a screen map depending on camera type or whether the camera is newly added.

Embodiments of the invention relate to methods for providing information relevant to using a public transportation system (PTS), the method comprising: receiving data relevant to the PTS responsive to a first user while the first user is using the PTS; and providing data relevant to the PTS to at least one of the first and a second user responsive to the received data. The received data may relate to at least one of physically relevant features and socially relevant features of the PTS. Providing data relevant to the PTS may comprise displaying information on a map comprising at least one icon indicative of a PTS vehicle and at a route of travel.

A method of determining if an object is allowed to board or disembark a vehicle. The method includes determining an object to be a candidate for boarding or disembarking a vehicle at a vehicle stop along a vehicle route. An assignment status is automatically assigned, via a processor, to the object representing whether the object is allowed to board or disembark the vehicle at the stop. The assignment status is based on attributes associated with the object, the street and the stop. The attributes are predetermined and stored in at least one memory storage device. The assigned assignment status is communicated to an operator. Based on the assigned assignment status, the vehicle is designated to stop for the object to board or disembark the vehicle at the stop.

A navigation system suitable for installation in a host-vehicle includes a navigation-device, a display, and a receiver. The navigation-device is configured to determine a first-location of a host-vehicle. The display is configured to show navigation-information to an operator of the host-vehicle. The navigation-information indicates the first-location relative to a map. The receiver is configured to receive profile-information associated with an other-vehicle. The profile-information includes a second-location of the other-vehicle. The system indicates the second-location on the map.
