Label assemblies and methods of manufacturing label assemblies are described. In an aspect, a label assembly includes a post-consumer waste (PCW) paper layer and a thermal coating applied at a side of the post-consumer waste paper layer. The post-consumer waste paper layer may have a fiber density that allows the thermal coating to sit on the side of the post-consumer waste paper layer while reducing absorption of the thermal coating within the post-consumer waste paper layer.

FACELESS PRESSURE-SENSITIVE LABEL AND METHOD OF PREPARING THE SAME

A pressure-sensitive label is provided. The pressure-sensitive label includes a support portion including a carrier layer and a transfer portion operatively connected to the support portion. The transfer portion includes at least an adhesive layer and an indicia layer. The transfer portion does not include a face stock layer. The transfer portion is configured for transfer of the transfer portion from the support portion to an article upon application of pressure to the transfer portion while the transfer portion is in contact with the article. A method of making a pressure-sensitive label is also provided. The method includes providing a first carrier layer, applying an indicia layer atop the first carrier layer, applying an adhesive layer atop the indicia layer, and applying a second carrier layer atop the adhesive layer.

THERMAL-SENSITIVE APPEARANCE-CHANGING LABEL

A thermal-sensitive label includes a label-specific set point temperature visually displayed thereon, and a thermal indicator that changes visual appearance in dependence upon temperature change in comparison with a threshold temperature. The threshold temperature of the thermal indicator is set during manufacture to be a fixed amount above the set point temperature. The thermal indicator has a first visual appearance when a temperature measured by the thermal indicator is below the threshold temperature. The thermal indicator dynamically changes to a second visual appearance different than the visual appearance when a second temperature measured by the thermal indicator exceeds the threshold temperature. A label kit includes multiple labels with a variety of different set-points. Each of the labels may include one or both of a reversing thermal indicator for comparing current temperature to the threshold temperature and a non-reversing thermal indicator for comparing a maximum temperature to the threshold temperature.

The adhesive can be applied in single or multiple layers. The paper is light weight paper and preferably thermal paper for use in POS printers.

The various implementations of this disclosure may describe a validation slide utilizing any number of the features described above in any combination.

A back side of the liner substrate includes a coating for imaging on the liner substrate with: inkjet, laser, direct thermal, or thermal transfer printing. The liner label and the corresponding label of the label substrate separable from the label combination by a manufactured pull tab substantially centered at a bottom of the liner label of the liner substrate and the corresponding label of the label substrate.

The web includes (i) a substrate having a front side and a back side opposite the front side, (ii) a thermally-sensitive coating disposed on the front side of the substrate, (iii) adhesive disposed on a portion of the back side of the substrate along the web axis, and (iv) a release coating disposed on the front side of the substrate along the web axis to prevent the adhesive from sticking to the front side of the substrate when the web is wound on the core. The web further includes (v) a longitudinal weakened structure extending along a direction parallel to the web axis and dividing the web into a first web portion on which the adhesive is disposed and a second web portion which is substantially devoid of adhesive.

A direct thermal and thermal transfer label combination is provided. The label includes a substrate, and the substrate includes a thermal print coating applied to a front side of the substrate. The label also includes a liner attached to a backside of the substrate along a first side of the liner. Further, an aqueous resin-based thermal transfer coating is applied to a second side of the liner. The front side of the label is capable of being imaged through direct thermal printing while the second side of the liner represents an opposite side of the label that is capable of being imaged through thermal transfer printing.
