Passive e-paper imaging and erasing

An imaging device for a passive e-paper display includes an erasing head to emit ions in a first polarity followed by an opposite second polarity after a first time period. The passive e-paper display is mountable on a support in a spaced apart relationship relative to the erasing head and by which the emitted ions are receivable onto substantially the entire surface of the passive e-paper display. Relative movement occurs between the support and the erasing head at least some of the time during the emission of ions from the erasing head.

Systems and Methods for Dynamic Advertising Via Distributed Computing

An advertisement or a message is directed to a display device based on: a future time period of an on-going event to be allocated to a person with whom the display device is associated, or an expected viewership of the display device. The future time to be allocated is determined based on the person's prior performance during the on-going event. The expected viewership can be based on one or more of the environment of the display device, and an event expected to occur in that environment. A display device associated with a person may be affixed to an article used by the person. Other display devices may be mounted on movable objects such as vehicles or may be stationary displays.

An active, specialized stylus and sharp color graphics may be combined with a tactile display in order to increase accessibility to the blind and visually impaired. A tactile display may consist of an array of pins that may be raised to varying heights to represent contours and outlines of images that are recognizable when touched. A specialized stylus may allow the user to instantly create, touch and save tactile drawings or alter with multi-sensory feedback. A tactile and visual display may consist of an array of pins, with circular or squared-off tops. Physical attributes may be given to individual pins, the screen itself (LED), or a LCD WXGA or other type of projector may be incorporated so that enhanced visual imaging is combined with tactile graphics to give those with different levels of visual impairment a multisensory feedback when experiencing images or drawings. Also this technology may be used with autistic students and those with learning disabilities, as well as serve as a means of entertainment.

COLOUR ELECTROCHROMIC DISPLAY

There is provided an electrochromic fixed image display and a method for manufacturing the display. The electrochromic fixed image display for displaying a predetermined symbol comprising a stack of layers of: a colour layer which is configured to provide a resulting colour contrast to the display when comparing its on-state and off-state; a first electrochromic electrode layer arranged behind said colour layer in a viewing direction; an electronically and ionically insulating symbol defining layer, arranged behind the first electrode layer, which comprises at least one opening defining the shape the predetermined symbol; an electrolyte, arranged behind the symbol defining layer, which fills and covers the opening of said symbol defining layer; and a counter electrode layer, arranged behind the electrolyte layer, comprising an electronically conductive material, wherein the electrolyte layer is in ionic contact with the first electrode layer and the counter electrode layer.

Multi-layered electrophoretic displays

A composite electrophoretic display comprised of multiple, stacked, non-planar electrophoretic displays. The individual electrophoretic displays that form the composite display may be driven separately using different driving signals. The electrical connections for the individual displays may be configured to minimize the impact of the electrical connections on the overall aesthetic of the composite display.
