20200222230 · 2020-07-16 · ·

The present invention discloses an Intra Uterine Ball (IUB) device useful for a gynecological procedure or treatment. The aforesaid device comprises a hollow sleeve for at least partial insertion into the uterine cavity; and, an elongate conformable member with at least a portion comprised of shape memory alloy. The elongate member is adapted to be pushed out from said sleeve within said uterine cavity. It is the core of the invention that the elongate member is adapted to conform into a predetermined three dimensional ball-like configuration within said uterine cavity following its emergence from said sleeve, such that expulsion from said uterine cavity, malposition in said uterine cavity, and perforation of the uterine walls is prevented.

VARIABLE STIFFNESS FLEXURE

The first and second internal flexures each include a first section having a first stiffness, a second section having a second stiffness, and third section having a third stiffness, wherein the second stiffness is more flexible than the first and third stiffness and wherein the first section of each internal flexure is coupled to the central support member. The first and second external flexures are coupled to the central support member and coupled to the third sections of the first and second internal flexures, the first and second external flexures in combination with the first and second internal flexures being configured to extend from a collapsed position parallel to the central support member to a deployed position flexing away from the central support member.

INSERTER

The present invention relates to an inserter for an intrauterine system, comprising a handle (3) having a longitudinal opening (8) at its first end, said opening (8) having a longitudinal axis parallel to the longitudinal axis of the inserter, a first end (8a) and a second end (8b), a movable slider (5) arranged in said longitudinal opening (8) and having a first end (5a) and a second end (5b), a plunger (2) attached to the handle (3) and having a longitudinal axis, and an insertion tube (6) having a first end, a second end and a longitudinal axis essentially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the plunger (2), the insertion tube (6) being, along said longitudinal axis, movably arranged around the plunger (2). The invention is characterised in that it further comprises a flange (4) arranged on the insertion tube (6) at its first end, and means for locking the slider (5) into a position showing the correct insertion depth for the intrauterine system, said means being adjustable with respect to the opening (8) of the handle.

INSERTER

Intrauterine device, and a method of reducing the rate of diffusion of active ingredients in said intrauterine device
11872284 · 2024-01-16 · ·

An intrauterine device having at least one first pharmaceutically active ingredient and at least one first layer made of at least a first polymeric material, wherein between about 10 and about 60 v/v % of at least one particulate material is dispersed and/or incorporated in the first polymeric material. The presence of the particulate material will reduce the porosity of the polymer or otherwise obstruct the diffusion of the pharmaceutically active ingredient being released, thereby slowing its rate of release. In this way, it is possible to regulate the release rate and/or initial burst of the device, simply by adjusting the amount of particles/particulate material in the first layer, instead of having to adapt the size of the device to the desired release pattern, which requires expensive changes in production equipment and manufacturing processes.

An intrauterine device (20) with a restricted movement of a knot (5) of the string (4) due to a region (3) having such differed shape and size at a distal end (12) of central vertical stem (1) and due to a trajectory for string (4) in the region (3) that the length of the string (S) is shorter than the distance (r) of the region (3); and the loop (15) of the string and therefore the knot (5) is unable to pivot around the axis (14) . The lateral shift of the knot (5) is also prevented. Consequent to restricted pivoting and restricted lateral shift of the knot (5), the hanging portion (9) of the string (4) continue to project downwards and do NOT develop tendency to get retracted and thus do not curl up in the uterus (16) through the cervix (17).
