Systems and methods for guiding a vehicle occupant's attention

Systems and methods for guiding a vehicle occupant's attention are disclosed herein. One embodiment selects automatically a particular region of an environment external to a vehicle and guides an occupant of the vehicle to look at the particular region by automatically adjusting the transparency of one or more windows of the vehicle such that a first portion of the one or more windows through which the occupant is able to see the particular region is more transparent than a second portion of the one or more windows that is adjacent to the first portion.

Increased bit depth in high frame rate applications

Described examples include a process that includes illuminating a spatial light modulator at a first illumination level during a first bit-plane and stopping illumination at a beginning of a second bit-plane subsequent to the first bit-plane. The process also includes resuming illumination after a settling period of the spatial light modulator at a second illumination level for a time period such that a total illumination energy during the second bit-plane is equivalent to an intended illumination energy for the second bit-plane at the first illumination level and stopping illumination at the second illumination level before a subsequent third bit-plane.

Display devices and actuators and other components for a display device are provided. Display devices are provided configured to alter an optical property by moving an amount of a first fluid through which light can pass. In some aspects, the first fluid is movable within a cavity by varying an amount of pressure on the cavity; and the display includes a means of varying the amount of pressure. The means can include an actuator. An actuator is provided that has a first cavity containing fluid and bounded at least in part by a first elastomer; a second cavity containing fluid and bounded at least in by part by a second elastomer; a channel connecting the first cavity to the second cavity; and a valve configured to be electrically operated into an open state or a closed state and thereby allow or block flow of the fluid through the channel.

Displays for tintable windows

A tintable window is described having a tintable coating, e.g., an electrochromic device coating, for regulating light transmitted through the window. In some embodiments, the window has a transparent display in the window's viewable region. Transparent displays may be substantially transparent when not in use, or when the window is viewed in a direction facing away from the transparent display. Windows may have sensors for receiving user commands and/or for monitoring environmental conditions. Transparent displays can display graphical user interfaces to, e.g., control window functions. Windows, as described herein, offer an alternative display to conventional projectors, TVs, and monitors. Windows may also be configured to receive, transmit, or block wireless communications from passing through the window. A window control system may share computational resources between controllers (e.g., at different windows). In some cases, the computational resources of the window control system are utilized by other building systems and devices.

METHODS FOR DRIVING ELECTRO-OPTIC DISPLAYS

There are provided display controllers and driving methods related to those described in US Published Patent Application No. 2013/0194250. These include (a) a display controller having an update buffer, means for removing from the update buffer pixels not requiring updating, and means to ensure that pixels having certain special states are not removed from the update buffer; (b) a method of driving a bistable display wherein, in a pixel undergoing a white-to-white transition and lying adjacent another pixel undergoing a visible transition, there is applied to the pixel one or more balanced pulse pairs and at least one top-off pulse; (c) a method of driving a bistable display by overlaying a non-rectangular item over a pre-existing image content and then removing the item, where only pixels in the region of the item perform transitions (including self-transitions); and (d) a method of driving a bistable display in which a proportion of background pixels not undergoing an optical change are subjected to a refresh pulse to correct optical state drift.

Disclosed herein are methods, apparatuses, systems, and computer readable media relating to formation of acoustic conditioning and acoustic mapping of an enclosure using sound sensor(s) and emitter(s).

Stacked display device and control method thereof

A stacked display device and a control method thereof are provided. The stacked display device includes a stacked display including a first panel and a second panel comprising a different transmittance from the first panel and a processor to obtain a first layer image to display an image on the first panel and a second layer image to display an image on the second panel, adjust brightness of the second layer image based on a ratio between a first transmittance for the first panel and a second transmittance for the second panel, and a pixel value of the second layer image, and control the stacked display to display the second layer image of which brightness is adjusted on the second panel while displaying the first layer image on the first panel.

TINTABLE WINDOW SYSTEM COMPUTING PLATFORM

Resources of a system for controlling optically switchable windows may be used for a personal computing unit. The window system resources may include (i) a display associated with an optically switchable window, (ii) one or more processors of one or more controllers on a window network connected to a plurality of optically switchable windows in a building, wherein the one or more controllers are configured to vary tint states of the plurality of optically switchable windows in the building, (iii) memory of one or more controllers on the window network connected to the plurality of optically switchable windows in the building, and/or (iv) at least a part of the window network.

CONFIGURATION ASSOCIATED WITH MEDIA DISPLAY OF A FACILITY

Disclosed herein are systems, apparatuses, methods, and non-transitory computer readable media related to a display construct coupled to a structure (e.g., a vision window such as a tintable window). The structure can be a supportive structure such as a fixture. The display construct is configured to facilitate media display and is at least partially transparent. An interactive installation software tool and process aligns a digital configuration of the display construct and/or touch screen functionality of the display construct, with its physical configuration in a matrix of display constructs.

Highly reflective electrostatic shutter display

A reflective display tile can be used in connection with a static or video display. The tile includes a transparent substrate having a front surface, a rear surface, and a peripheral edge surrounding the front and rear surfaces, an electrostatic shutter array disposed at the front surface of said substrate, a reflective medium disposed at the rear surface of the substrate, and drive electronics disposed rearward of the reflective medium. The shutter array and drive electronics are configured so that the tile is tileable and can be abutted at any of its peripheral edges against identical tiles to form a display with substantially no perceived optical interface between adjacent tiles. Another embodiment includes an opaque substrate such as a circuit board. A further embodiment has a polymeric film coated on one side with a metal film and on another side with ink or blackening material.
