POLYMORPHIC ELECTRO-OPTIC DISPLAYS
Described herein is a polymorphic display, which is a unitary apparatus constructed such that a wide variety of electro-optic functions are enabled. The polymorphic display, even when having multiple pixels, enables sharing of selected structures among the pixels. In a multi-pixel construction, there is a set of pixels in the display that exhibit one set of operable properties, such as particular stability, sequencing, and switching properties, and another set of pixels that are different from the first set. That is, they have different stability, sequencing, or switching properties. In such a way, a highly flexible polymorphic display may be construed to satisfy a wide range of display need.
Organic light-emitting diode display
An OLED display is disclosed. The display includes a display panel having a luminance level of the display panel, a power supply unit providing first and second power voltages to the display panel, and a gamma reference voltage generator configured to i) generate a compensation gamma reference voltage, ii) detect a voltage level of the first power voltage at a detection point of the display panel, ii) change the compensation gamma reference voltage from a first voltage level to a second voltage level within a frame based at least in part on the detected voltage level, and iv) determine the first voltage level of the compensation gamma reference voltage based at least in part on the luminance level.
Methods for driving four particle electrophoretic display
The present invention provides driving methods for a color display device in which each pixel can display four high-quality color states. More specifically, an electrophoretic fluid is provided which comprises four types of particles, dispersed in a solvent or solvent mixture.
Process for the Formation of a Porous Film Assembly
A display device which includes an electronic paper display additionally comprises power harvesting hardware and display update hardware which is configured to control the updating of the electronic paper display based on a sensed power harvesting level which may, in various embodiments, be a current incoming power level as generated by the power harvesting hardware or a stored power level in a power storage device within the display device.
Autonomous pixel with multiple different sensors
An autonomous pixel comprises a display element, a plurality of different sensors and a control element. The sensors are arranged to detect one or more external stimuli and the control element is arranged to generate, entirely within the autonomous pixel, a control signal to drive the display element based, at least in part, on a magnitude of an external stimulus detected by one or more of the different sensors.
Digital License Plate System
A digital license plate supporting both access and analysis of vehicle relevant information is disclosed. The digital license plate includes sensors that provide status data to a processor in the digital license plate. A power path control module can initiate power state changes and adjust power depending on system state as determined by at least one the multiple sensors. In some embodiments a temperature control module is connected to a temperature sensor and configured to modify heat relevant display parameters as critical temperatures are approached.
Display control to alleviate transition of pixel to an undesired level of gradation over time
A device includes circuitry that determines a currently defined tone of a pixel, and that determines a voltage to be applied to the pixel to compensate for a change in tone of the pixel through elapsed time based on the currently defined tone of the pixel. The device then applies the voltage to the pixel.
Custom PSFs using clustered light sources
Light sources of a backlight are configured to customize the shape of light emitted from the clusters. The clusters are activated as a unit and modulated as to brightness, but of the customized shape. All clusters can have a similar customized PSF, or the customization of each cluster may be varied in real time. Real time changes of a clusters PSF may be based, for example, an image or a region of the image to be displayed using the clusters.
METHODS FOR DRIVING ELECTRO-OPTIC DISPLAYS
There are provided display controllers and driving methods related to those described in US Published Patent Application No. 2013/0194250. These include (a) a display controller having an update buffer, means for removing from the update buffer pixels not requiring updating, and means to ensure that pixels having certain special states are not removed from the update buffer; (b) a method of driving a bistable display wherein, in a pixel undergoing a white-to-white transition and lying adjacent another pixel undergoing a visible transition, there is applied to the pixel one or more balanced pulse pairs and at least one top-off pulse; (c) a method of driving a bistable display by overlaying a non-rectangular item over a pre-existing image content and then removing the item, where only pixels in the region of the item perform transitions (including self-transitions); and (d) a method of driving a bistable display in which a proportion of background pixels not undergoing an optical change are subjected to a refresh pulse to correct optical state drift.
