Techniques for optimizing light output profiles in display systems are described. A light output profile is defined in relation to a plurality of sample locations on an illuminated surface. Point spread functions that satisfy illumination performance values specified in the light output profile in aggregate are computed or derived. A design process that adds or removes optical components to a display light assembly derives an optimal design of a light illumination layer for display systems. Relationships and parameter values determined in the design process may be configured into display systems along with the optical components for the purpose of generating optimized light output profiles in the display systems.

A display control apparatus includes a viewing condition recognition circuit, a content classification circuit, and a display adjustment circuit. The viewing condition recognition circuit recognizes a viewing condition associated with a display device to generate a viewing condition recognition result. The content classification circuit analyzes an input frame to generate a content classification result of contents included in the input frame. The display adjustment circuit generates an output frame by performing image content adjustment according to the viewing condition recognition result and the content classification result, wherein the image content adjustment comprises at least content-adaptive adjustment applied to at least a portion of pixel positions of the input frame based on the content classification result.

A multi-display system includes: a master display device; a first slave display device; an optical measuring instrument to measure luminance and color displayed by a first image display unit of the master display device; and a deterioration factor calculating unit to calculate a deterioration factor on the basis of a first set of measurement parameters, which represent the luminance and the color measured by the optical measuring instrument, and of initial values of the first set of measurement parameters. The master display device performs adjustment on the basis of the first set of measurement parameters. The first slave display device performs adjustment on the basis of a second set of measurement parameters of a second image display unit of the first slave display device, wherein the second set of measurement parameters are calculated from the deterioration factor and from initial values of the second set of measurement parameters.
Frame-rate based illumination control at display device
A display system includes a rendering device and a display device. The rendering device is to render a sequence of frames for display at a frame rate and to set an illumination configuration to be applied by the display device during a frame period for each frame of the sequence of frames based on the frame rate. The illumination configuration controls at least one of an illumination level and a duration for an illumination strobe, and at least one of an illumination level for an illumination fill preceding the illumination strobe in the frame period and an illumination level for an illumination fill following the illumination strobe in the frame period. The display device is to receive a representation of the illumination configuration from the rendering device and apply the illumination configuration during a frame period for each frame of the sequence of frames to display the frame.

The present disclosure provides a backlight driving circuit, which includes a backlight source, an image collecting circuit, a comparing circuit, a PWM generating circuit, a PFM generating circuit, a driving circuit and a backlight driving circuit, the image collecting circuit outputs a grayscale value of a current frame to the driving circuit; the driving circuit transmits a grayscale variation value to the comparing circuit; the comparing circuit outputs a control signal for the PWM generating circuit or a control signal for the PFM generating circuit; the PWM generating circuit generates a PWM signal or the PFM generating circuit generates a PFM signal and outputs it to the backlight driving circuit; the backlight driving circuit changes a current of the backlight source for dimming. This circuit may decrease the whole energy loss of the backlight adjusting process and increase the working efficiency of the circuit.
