Modifying humidity and convection to glabrous tissue to control metabolism
Systems and methods for affecting metabolism, such as the treatment of metabolic syndrome are disclosed. A method for treating metabolic syndrome can include one or more of the steps including identifying a region of the patient comprising glabrous tissue; positioning the region of the patient comprising glabrous tissue into an enclosed chamber; adjusting the relative humidity of the enclosed chamber sufficient to create a physiologic metabolic effect; and activating a convection fan within the chamber to promote heat transfer from the glabrous tissue. The method need not involve altering the temperature within the enclosed chamber.

The first and second electrodes are configured to supply the electric power from the battery (35) to the Peltier device (31) and the pump (341).
PORTABLE THERMAL THERAPY AND SUPPORT APPARATUS FOR EMERGENCY MEDICAL TREATMENT
A thermal therapy headgear for a patient includes a plurality of thermal reaction compartments, a liquid chamber, a gas chamber, and a gas container. The thermal reaction compartments contain a first of at least two thermal reaction components, and the liquid chamber contains the second thermal reaction component. The gas container has therein a pressurized gas and a gas valve for selectively releasing the pressurized gas into the gas chamber. The gas in the gas chamber will apply pressure to the liquid chamber and force the second thermal reaction component through the valve and into the thermal reaction compartments to react and transfer heat with the patient, and the presence of the gas within the gas chamber will cushion the patient. A method for conducting hypothermic therapy is also disclosed.
Hypothermic circular surgical staplers and methods of use
The present invention relates to surgical instruments and methods for enhancing properties of tissue repaired or joined by surgical staples and, more particularly to surgical instruments and methods designed to enhance the properties of repaired or adjoined tissue at a target surgical site, especially when sealing an anastomosis between adjacent intestinal sections to improve tissue viability under hypoxia conditions, prevent tissue inflammation, and to prevent leakage. The present invention further relates to hypothermic circular stapling instruments configured to pre-cool the tissues being joined by staples.
THERMOSTATIC MASSAGE PAD
A thermostatic massage pad includes: a thermostatic pad, wherein a thermostatic water pipe is arranged inside the thermostatic pad; a cooling pad, wherein a cooling water pipe is arranged inside the cooling pad; a casing, wherein a thermostatic water pump and a cooling water pump are respectively arranged inside the casing, a thermostatic water tank is arranged at a top of the thermostatic water pump, a cooling water tank is arranged at a top of the cooling water pump, a water inlet end of the thermostatic water pump is connected to a water outlet of the thermostatic water tank, and a water inlet end of the cooling water pump is connected to a water outlet of the cooling water tank; a thermoelectric cooler, wherein an end surface of the thermoelectric cooler is fixedly connected to a wall surface of the thermostatic water tank.
CRYOSYSTEM COMPRISING NANOPARTICLES FOR TREATING A BODY PART OF AN INDIVIDUAL BY CRYOTHERAPY
A cryo-system for treating a body part of an individual by cryotherapy, which includes two parts. The first part is either i) a cryo-probe suitable for internal cooling, which includes a penetrating segment in communication with a cryogen source and is at least smaller than 1/10th of the body part's biggest volume and/or at least one dimension smaller than 1 cm or ii) a cryo-probe suitable for external cooling, which includes a non-penetrating segment in communication with a cryogen source. The second part is either i) an assembly of at least two nanoparticles bound to each other or associated with each other via binding or associating material or ii) at least one nanoparticle, which includes iron and at least one other metal than iron. The assembly of at least two nanoparticles or the at least one nanoparticle may be cooled by the cryo-probe or by switching on the cryo-probe.
Air flow system and method for air circulation therapy
The air flow system includes a hose member having an exterior flow tube and an interior flow tube, a distal connector, and a proximal connector. The air flow in the interior flow tube is separate from the exterior flow tube. Air flows from the exterior flow tube, through a flow chamber, around a treatment site of inflammation and back to the interior flow tube. The system for air circulation therapy also includes a body attachment device, an air pump supply, an air recovery unit, a temperature sensor, an air flow sensor, and a controller. The method includes inserting a body part with a treatment site within the flow chamberand sealing the flow chamber to the air flow system. Temperature regulated air flow is supplied to the treatment site in the flow chamber and collected from the flow chamber.
Mist generator for sterilizing forced air systems
A mist generator improves the sterility of blowers having controlled forced air systems. In one embodiment, the mist generator has a chamber adapted to receive a disinfectant adapted for attachment to an output opening of a blower for delivery into the chamber of forced air carrying misted disinfectant. The main body also includes an output duct or aperture adapted for attachment to a second hose which, in turn, is adapted for attachment to an inlet opening of the blower for delivery of disinfectant misted air through internal components of the blower. Alternatively, there is used a disinfectant filter formed as a sterilizing grid having a screen coated with a soft porous surface material impregnated with a liquid disinfectant. The soft porous surface material releases said liquid disinfectant when forced air moves through the filter. In both embodiments, sterile water is introduced to take up residual disinfectant and the vapor captured in a dry filter or desiccant material and removed from the system. The mist generator improves the sterility of the blower to mitigate microbial contamination of forced air delivery systems.
