Method and system for detecting and mitigating audio howl in headsets
A method performed by an audio system that includes a headset with a left headset housing and a right headset housing. The method includes driving a speaker of the left headset housing with an audio signal, determining whether audio howl is present within the left headset housing by comparing spectral content from a first error microphone signal produced by a first error microphone of the left headset housing and spectral content from a second error microphone signal produced by a second error microphone of the right headset housing, and, in response to determining that audio howl is present, filtering the audio signal to mitigate the audio howl.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR CONTROLLING ADAPTIVE NOISE CONTROL GAIN
A method may include adaptively generating an anti-noise signal for countering the effects of ambient audio sounds at an acoustic output of the transducer by adapting a response of an adaptive filter that filters a reference microphone signal in conformity with an error microphone signal and the reference microphone signal to minimize the ambient audio sounds in the error microphone, generating a scaled anti-noise signal by applying a scaling factor to the anti-noise signal, further adjusting the response of the adaptive filter independent of a source audio signal by altering an input to the coefficient control block of the adaptive filter to compensate for the scaling factor, and combining the scaled anti-noise signal with the source audio signal to generate an audio signal provided to the transducer.
SELF-VOICE ADAPTATION
Aspects of the subject technology relate to a device including a microphone, a filter and a processor. The filter receives an audio signal including ambient noise and a voice of a user of the device from the microphone. At least a portion of ambient noise is filtered from the audio signal. The processor determines a level of the ambient noise in the received audio signal and dynamically adjusts a gain applied to the filtered audio signal based on the level of the ambient noise.
HYBRID ACTIVE NOISE CONTROL SYSTEM
An apparatus for canceling noise at an ear speaker includes a wideband active noise cancellation filter having a first bandwidth and configured to generate a wideband anti-noise signal from a received reference noise signal, a narrowband active noise cancellation filter having a second bandwidth smaller than the first bandwidth and configured to generate a narrowband anti-noise signal from an error noise signal, a filter between the ear speaker and an error microphone and configured to generate a feedback noise signal, and a controller. The controller is configured to eliminate the error noise signal by modifying coefficients of the wideband active noise cancellation filter and the narrowband active noise cancellation filter in response to the wideband anti-noise signal, the narrowband anti-noise signal, and the feedback noise signal.

Embodiments of the present application provide a method and system for active noise control, which can meet different needs of different consumers on sound quality of headphones. The method includes: determining an expected noise control curve of performing active noise control on a target object; determining a target filter according to the expected noise control curve and a filter model; and performing noise control processing on an external noise signal using the target filter.
ADJUSTABLE SIDETONE AND ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLATION IN HEADPHONES AND SIMILAR DEVICES
A headphone device comprising active noise cancellation means (ANC) having a feedback (FB) signal path, a feed forward (FF) signal path and a sidetone signal path, where the headphone is provided with a control member (1, 11) that can be displaced or rotated between opposite positions, where the control member (1, 11) is configured such that the gain of the FF signal path and the gain of the sidetone signal path are controllable by the control member (1, 11) in such manner that when the control member (1, 11) is at one extreme position, the gain of the FF signal path is maximum and the gain of the sidetone signal path is minimum and when the control member (1,11) is at the opposite extreme position, the gain of the FF signal path is minimum and the gain of the sidetone signal path is maximum.
AUDIO SYSTEM AND SIGNAL PROCESSING METHOD FOR AN EAR MOUNTABLE PLAYBACK DEVICE
An audio system for an ear mountable playback device comprises a speaker, an error microphone configured to predominantly sense sound being output from the speaker and a further microphone configured to predominantly sense ambient sound. The system further comprises a first noise filter coupling the further microphone to the speaker, a second noise filter coupling the error microphone to the speaker and an adaptation engine. The adaptation engine is configured to adapt a response of the first noise filter depending on error signals from at least the error microphone, estimate a leakage condition from the response of the first noise filter, and adapt a response of the second noise filter depending on the estimated leakage condition.
METHOD FOR REDUCING ECHO IN A HEARING INSTRUMENT AND HEARING INSTRUMENT
A method reduces echo in a hearing instrument. A first input transducer generates a first input signal from ambient sound. A communication unit receives an external input signal from an external device. The first input signal and the external input signal are used to generate an output signal. The output signal is used in a first filter to generate a compensation signal for reducing echo and/or acoustic feedback. The first input signal and the compensation signal are used to generate an error signal. Filter coefficients of the first filter and/or a comparison of the error signal with the compensation signal and/or with the first input signal are/is used to generate a control variable. The control variable is taken as a basis for applying a second filter for rejecting a residual echo or a residual feedback to an intermediate signal derived from the input signal, and a transmission signal is generated.

A first vibration member operatively connected to the audio input, a second vibration member operatively connected to the audio input, and a microphone may be supported by a housing of at least one of the earcups. A feedback, noise-cancelation circuit configured to reduce a user's perception of a portion of an audible response of the second vibration member may be operatively connected to the microphone. The feedback, noise-cancelation circuit may be configured to modify an audio signal from the audio input at least in part based on a signal from the microphone and send the modified audio signal to the first vibration member.
