Method for head stack assembly rework

A method for head stack assembly (HSA) rework is disclosed. A first head gimbal assembly (HGA) includes a first suspension attached to an arm of the HSA, and a first flexure tail that terminates in a first bonding region that is bonded to a flexible printed circuit (FPC) of the HSA. The first HGA is removed by cutting the first bonding region from a remainder of the first flexure tail and detaching the first suspension from the arm. The first bonding region of the first flexure tail is left bonded to the FPC. A replacement HGA includes a replacement suspension and a replacement flexure tail that terminates in a second bonding region. The replacement HGA is installed on the HSA by attaching the replacement suspension to the arm, overlaying the second bonding region on the first bonding region, and bonding the second bonding region to the first bonding region.

Magnetic recording head having protected reader sensors and near zero recession writer poles

An apparatus according to one embodiment includes a module having first and second transducers of different transducer types positioned towards a media facing side of the module. The apparatus also includes a first protection structure for protecting the first transducer. The first protection structure includes a recessed portion of the media facing side adjacent the first transducer. The second transducer is protected by a second protection structure that is different than the first protection structure. The second protection structure includes a recessed portion of the media facing side adjacent the second transducer. An extent of recession of the recessed portion of the media facing side adjacent the second transducer is not as great as an extent of recession of the recessed portion of the media facing side adjacent the first transducer.

[Object] To provide a technology for writing a servo pattern that can be accurately read even when a data write head is disposed so as to be inclined with respect to a width direction of a magnetic tape, and the like.

[Solving Means] A servo recording apparatus according to the present technology includes: a servo write head. The servo write head writes a first servo pattern and a second servo pattern to a plurality of servo bands of a magnetic tape, the first servo pattern and the second servo pattern being asymmetric with respect to a width direction of the magnetic tape, the magnetic tape being used in a data recording apparatus that includes a data write head disposed such that a longitudinal direction of the data write head is inclined with respect to the width direction of the magnetic tape by a first head azimuth angle.
