Each of the plurality of disks includes a read/write surface. The first arm has a first head end that is movable relative to the stack. The first head is configured to interact with a selected one of the read/write surfaces. The first linear driver is configured to move the first arm along a first straight line in a x-y plane defined by the one of the read/write surfaces. The elevator is configured to move the first arm in a z direction. The second arm has a second head end that is movable relative to the stack and supports the second head. The second linear driver is configured to move the second arm along a second straight line in the x-y plane.

Double loop heater

An apparatus comprises a slider comprising an air bearing surface (ABS). The slider comprises a reader, a writer, and a reader heater. The reader heater is configured to cause a protrusion of the ABS proximate the reader, and the reader heater comprises a first planar loop and a second planar loop, wherein the first and second loops are in the same plane.

Split-actuator drive that coordinates timing of aggressor and victim for effective victim disturbance-feedforward

A victim feedforward signal is added to a microactuator control signal of the victim actuator in response to a voice-coil motor (VCM) control signal that is applied to the aggressor actuator, where the victim feedforward signal is configured to compensate for disturbances to a victim head caused by assertion of the aggressor VCM control signal. Each aggressor VCM control signal is asserted at a specific time by the aggressor actuator, for example in response to the aggressor head passing over a first servo wedge. A feedforward signal that compensates for the effect of the aggressor VCM control signal is then determined based on the aggressor VCM control signal, stored, and asserted via the victim microactuator at a predetermined time relative to when the aggressor VCM control signal is asserted.

Disk device having a multi-actuator assembly with a protective member attached to the tip of an actuator arm

A disk device includes a plurality of magnetic disks, a plurality of magnetic heads, a first actuator assembly having a plurality of arms and a plurality of suspension assemblies for the magnetic heads and supported to be rotatable about a support shaft, a second actuator assembly having a plurality of arms and a plurality of suspension assemblies for the magnetic heads and supported to be rotatable about the support shaft, and a protective member formed from a material different from a material for the arms. The protective member is provided on a tip end portion of at least one of a first arm closest to the second actuator assembly among the of arms in the first actuator assembly and a second arm closest to the first actuator assembly among the arms in the second actuator assembly.

A hard disk drive having a single drive arm with multiple read-write heads for synchronous access to data, wherein the multiple read-write heads are used for synchronous access to shorten the access time of the hard disk drive and the data.

Hard disk access using multiple actuators

Technologies are provided for supporting multi-actuator storage device access using logical addresses. Separate sets of storage locations on a storage medium of a storage device can be associated with different actuators of the storage device. For example, a first set of storage locations can be assigned to a first actuator of the storage device and a second set of storage locations can be assigned to a second actuator of the storage device. The storage locations of the storage medium can be associated with logical addresses. The storage device can receive a data access request containing a logical address and can identify a storage location associated with the logical address. The storage device can identify a storage location set to which the storage location belongs and can use an actuator associated with the storage location set to access the storage location associated with the logical address.
