Data storage device seeking multiple voice coil motors using a limited current supply
A data storage device is disclosed comprising a first voice coil motor (VCM) configured to actuate a first head, and a second VCM configured to actuate a second head. A high priority is assigned to the first VCM and a low priority to the second VCM. A first access command is serviced using the first head by seeking the first VCM using a first high performance seek profile. When seeking the second VCM without seeking the first VCM, a second access command is serviced using the second head using a second high performance seek profile. When concurrently seeking the first VCM and the second VCM, the seeking of the second VCM is with a reduced performance seek profile, wherein the second high performance seek profile decreases a seek time of the second VCM compared to the reduced performance seek profile.
Tape drive with independent transverse motion of transducer and transducer housing
A tape drive system with a transducer (for example, a magnetic head arrays/separation shield) located in a recess of a transducer housing (for example, supporting rails, a U-shaped carbon tape guide). During seek operations and/or data access operations (that is, read/write operations), the transducer and the transducer housing are moved, in the transverse direction relative to the direction of elongation of the tape, independently of each other. The motion of the transducer housing (for example, back and forth oscillatory movement in the transverse direction) is controlled to even out wear across the tape-facing surface of the transducer housing. Some embodiments accomplish this by using separate motors to transversely move the transducer and the transducer housing.
Head Suspension Assembly Having PZT Damper
In a gimbal dual stage actuated (GSA) suspension for a disk drive, a viscoelastic damper is disposed between and adhered to the suspension's PZT microactuator and the flexure trace gimbal. The damper is dispensed in fluid form onto the trace gimbal during assembly of the suspension, the PZT is placed onto the damper, and the damper is then hardened leaving it adhered to both the PZT and the trace gimbal. The damper reduces peaks in the frequency response of the PZT actuation, thus allowing higher bandwidth of the servo control loop and increasing the effective read and write speeds for the suspension.
MAGNETIC TAPE DEVICE AND HEAD TRACKING SERVO METHOD
The magnetic tape device includes: a magnetic tape; and a servo head, in which a magnetic tape transportation speed of the magnetic tape device is equal to or lower than 18 m/sec, the servo head is a magnetic head including a tunnel magnetoresistance effect type element as a servo pattern reading element, the magnetic tape includes a non-magnetic support, and a magnetic layer including ferromagnetic powder and a binding agent on the non-magnetic support, the magnetic layer includes a servo pattern, and a coefficient of friction measured regarding a base portion of a surface of the magnetic layer is equal to or smaller than 0.30.
Dynamic head offset selection for tape drive
A method and system for adjusting a servo head in a tape drive is disclosed. Position information for the servo head can be obtained and used to determine if an adjustment of one of the servo heads is necessary. By comparing the position of the tape against two servo heads, erroneous adjustments to the servo head can be obviated.
Magnetic disk apparatus
According to one embodiment, a magnetic disk apparatus includes a magnetic head, a voice coil motor, a driving circuit, and a VCM resistance estimation unit. The magnetic head accesses a magnetic disk. The voice coil motor drives the magnetic head over the magnetic disk. The driving circuit applies a VCM current to the voice coil motor. The VCM resistance estimation unit estimates a VCM resistance in the voice coil motor based on the saturated VCM current and a velocity of the magnetic head.
DUAL ACTUATOR STORAGE DEVICE UTILIZING MULTIPLE DISK ZONES
A recording surface of a magnetic disk is divided into first and second zones. A first head of a first actuator arm assembly reads from and/or writes to the first zone exclusively. A second head of a second actuator arm assembly reads from and/or writes to the second zone exclusively. The first and second head are capable of simultaneously reading from and writing to the recording surface.
Adaptive attenuation for disturbance compensation
An apparatus includes a frequency analyzer circuitry, filter circuitry, and voice coil motor (VCM) control circuitry. The frequency analyzer circuitry is configured to detect one or more dominant frequencies of a position error signal (PES). The filter circuitry is configured to identify one or more filters in response to detecting the one or more dominant frequencies, apply the one or more identified filters to at least one of a microactuator control signal and PES, and generate a VCM compensation signal in response to the filtered PES or the microactuator control signal. The VCM control circuitry is configured to generate a VCM control signal in response to the VCM compensation signal.
DISK DEVICE WITH STOPPER FOR MOVABLE MEMBER
According to one embodiment, a stopper of a disk device includes a fixing member to be fixed to a supporter of the disk device, and a cushioning member formed of a fluorine rubber and attached to the fixing member. The cushioning member includes a contact surface which contacts the fixing member, a first contact surface which can contact the supporter of the disk device, and a second contact surface which can contact a movable member in the disk device, the first contact surface has a first surface adhesive force based on adhesion of the fluorine rubber, and the second contact surface is subjected to a non-adhesive surface treatment and has a second surface adhesive force which is less than or equal to 1/20 the first surface adhesive force.
