In Equation A, Sq is a root-mean-square height Sq specified in ISO 25178, Vv(h.sub.0.05)-Vv(h.sub.0.8) is a void volume in a region where a load area ratio in a bearing curve is 5% or more and 80% or less, and A is a measurement region area.
Folded spring tape track following actuator
An apparatus for a spring actuator positioned in a folded spring actuator assembly includes a top section, a middle section, and a bottom section of the spring actuator that form a C-shape for the spring actuator. The middle section includes two parallelized spring legs, where a cable head module is slidable into a gap formed by the top section and two parallelized spring legs of the middle section of the spring actuator.
Symmetrical magnetic head and magnetic media for use with such head
An apparatus, in accordance with one aspect of the present invention, includes a magnetic head having an array of transducers, the transducers comprising data elements, at least two first servo readers positioned toward a first end of the array and at least two second servo readers positioned toward a second end of the array. The array is symmetrical about a centerpoint of the array, such that a distance between a center of an innermost one of the first servo readers and a center of the data element closest thereto is the same as a distance between a center of an innermost one of the second servo readers and a center of the data element closest thereto, and such that a distance between a center of an outermost one of the first servo readers and the center of the data element closest thereto is the same as a distance between a center of an outermost one of the second servo readers and the center of the data element closest thereto.
Magnetic disk device
A controller of a magnetic disk device executes an integration operation each time a magnetic head passes through a servo sector during a write operation for a write target section of a first track among a plurality of tracks, so long as a positioning error amount in a servo sector that was most recently passed through by the magnetic head is within a range of an error threshold. The integration operation includes calculating an integrated offset amount by adding up positioning error amounts in two or more servo sectors including at least the servo sector that was most recently passed through by the magnetic head among all servo sectors that were passed through by the magnetic head during the write operation. The controller executes a protection operation for protecting data of a second track adjacent to the first track among the plurality of tracks based on the integrated offset amount.
Multi-actuator device with shared read channel
A multi-actuator storage device includes a first actuator supporting a first read element coupled to a shared read channel, a second actuator supporting a second read element coupled to the shared read channel, and a job scheduler that employs a lowest-access time selection methodology when selecting each next job to schedule on the first actuator. When the lowest-access-time methodology results in the selection of a read job for execution by the first actuator, the job scheduler identifies a pending job for execution by the second actuator that can be executed concurrent to the first read job without concurrently accessing the read channel and schedules the pending job on the second actuator concurrent to the first read job.
Magnetic disk device
According to one embodiment, a magnetic disk device includes a disk, a write head, an adjustment unit, and a write processing unit. The adjustment unit adjusts each of a first adjustment value, a second adjustment value, and a third adjustment value. The write processing unit can select shingled magnetic recording and perform write processing based on the first to third adjustment values. When the number of the plurality of tracks of the band is t+1 and the number of unused sectors among the plurality of sectors of the band is e. The adjustment unit adjusts the first to third adjustment values to establish e<t.
