The medical pad includes a fluid containing layer configured for circulation of a TTM fluid therein. The pad may further include a bistable stiffening structure configured to transition between a first stable shape and a second stable shape. The pad may further include a thermally-conductive compressible foam layer disposed between the fluid containing layer and a patient contact side of the pad. a self-adhering stretchable band configured to secure the pad to the patient. The pad may further include a semi-permeable layer disposed between an underside of the fluid containing layer and a hydrogel layer so that the TTM fluid may migrate from the fluid containing layer to the hydrogel layer.

DEVICE AND METHOD FOR SPINAL COOLING

A spine cooling device is configured to hold the evaporative cooling textile in contact with a wearer's skin, particularly in a location between the wearer's hips and extending toward the wearer's tailbone. The spine cooling device has a pocket to hold the evaporative cooling textile, which textile can be periodically re-wetted while the spine cooling device remains in place on the wearer. The spine cooling device facilitates direct contact between the evaporative cooling textile and the wearer's skin, and is worn beneath the wearer's clothes. However, the device includes a water resistant layer placed to prevent the evaporative cooling textile from wetting the wearer's clothes.

Systems and methods for affecting metabolism, such as the treatment of metabolic syndrome are disclosed. A method for treating metabolic syndrome can include one or more of the steps including identifying a region of the patient comprising glabrous tissue; positioning the region of the patient comprising glabrous tissue into an enclosed chamber; adjusting the relative humidity of the enclosed chamber sufficient to create a physiologic metabolic effect; and activating a convection fan within the chamber to promote heat transfer from the glabrous tissue. The method need not involve altering the temperature within the enclosed chamber.

Apparatus and method for producing compresses having a cooling effect

The invention concerns the manufacture of personal care articles consisting of compresses having a cooling effect by swelling with water which are presented individually in vacuum packaging. According to the invention, successive doses of powder comprising absorbent particles are placed in grooves formed by elastic deformation in a lower sheet made of water-permeable textile material, which is continuously unwound, and covered with an upper sheet, which is continuously unwound at the same time as the lower sheet. The lower sheet is then heat-welded in the intervals between adjacent grooves thus isolating the grooves from each other. Successive compartments each containing a dose of the powder are then enclosed in each groove by heat-welding the sheets along transverse weld lines across the width of the moving sheet assembly.

MULTILAYER FILM FOR DISPOSABLE BODY WARMER OUTER BAG, AND DISPOSABLE BODY WARMER

To provide a multilayer film for a disposable body warmer outer bag, and a disposable body warmer that are excellent in gas barrier property which inhibits permeation of oxygen gas, water vapor and the like, and that can allow swelling due to hydrogen gas generated during a storage period to be prevented.

In a disposable body warmer outer bag formed from a multilayer film including a sealant layer 10 and a barrier layer 20, the sealant layer 10 and the barrier layer 20 serve as an inner surface and an outer surface of the outer bag, respectively. The sealant layer 10 includes a vapor-deposited layer 12 made by vapor-depositing a metal or metal oxide on at least one surface (upper portion in FIG. 1) of a thermal fusible resin substrate 11. The barrier layer 20 includes a polyvinylidene chloride layer 22 made by coating at least one surface (lower portion in FIG. 1) of a heat-resistant resin substrate 21 with polyvinylidene chloride.

PATIENT WARMING SYSTEMS AND CORRESPONDING METHODS

A clinical garment for patient warming including a front body panel having a first edge, an opposite second edge, an insulated sheet comprising an insulated layer positioned between an outer layer a film layer, a permeable layer adjacent to the film layer of the insulated sheet, a blanket section defined by a lower portion of the insulated sheet sealed to a lower portion of the permeable along a top edge, a bottom edge, and opposite first and second side edges of the blanket section, and at least one inlet port extending into the blanket section. The garment further includes a first back panel secured to at least a portion of the first edge of the front body panel and a second back panel secured to at least a portion of the second edge of the front body panel.

Patient thermal regulation systems

Disclosed herein are devices and systems that conduct temperature-controlled air through one or more enclosed chambers that are placed adjacent to a patient to help control the patient's temperature without blowing air directly on the patient. In some embodiments, the enclosed chamber has an air inlet and an air outlet and a defined air flow pathway therebetween. Air exiting the device can be directed away from the patient. The devices can include a crush-resistant but flexible air-flow layer of material inside the enclosure that allows air flow even when a patient is laying on the device. A cushioning layer can also be included overlaying the air-flow layer. The flowing air can be any desired temperature to help warm or cool a patient. The patient can be a human or animal, for example.
