Disclosed are devices and methods for body temperature management using a heat transfer catheter carrying a heat transfer fluid to heat or cool a desired, focused portion of a patient's body. In accordance with certain aspects of the invention, the heat transfer catheter may include hollow nodes that have greater rigidity than the remainder of the catheter to aid in placement of the heat transfer catheter within and navigation of the desired portion of the patient's body. Methods of using such heat transfer catheter to effect temperature management of the patient's body are also disclosed.

COOLING ARTICLES AND COOLING SYSTEMS

Embodiments include cooling articles including a receptacle, an endothermic ingredient contained in a first capsule within the receptacle, an endothermic matrix within the receptacle, and a color indicator. The endothermic ingredient, when mixed with the endothermic matrix, generates an endothermic reaction, and the color indicator is activated upon the generation of the endothermic reaction to indicate that cooling has been initiated. Other embodiments include cooling articles including an electric circuit configured to melt at least a portion of the first capsule to enable the endothermic ingredient and the endothermic matrix to mix. Systems for providing cooling that include a person support apparatus and a cooling article including a thermoelectric device coupled to the person support apparatus to direct heat from a source region to a sink region including the person support apparatus are also described.

REUSABLE COLD PACK

Embodiments described herein relate to a reusable chemical cold pack. The apparatus includes a body which defines a chamber having two volumes separated by a thin film composite membrane. The thin film composite membrane includes a fabric material sheet, a thermoplastic polymer material sheet, and a polyamide material sheet. A first volume disposed on one side of the thin film composite membrane contains a solvent and a second volume disposed on an opposite side of the thin film composite membrane contains a solute. A check valve is disposed through the thin film composite membrane and enables mixing of the solvent and the solute. The solvent and the solute may also be separated after mixing by diffusion of the solvent through the thin film composite membrane.

SELF-CONTAINED HEATED TREATMENT APPARATUS

A self-contained heated wax treatment apparatus can include an outer shell and a rack disposed inside the outer shell. The rack can include a receptacle holder and at least one heater holder. A receptacle can be connected to the rack. A heater can be connected to the heater holder of the rack. Activation of the heater causes heat to flow to the receptacle.

PORTABLE RAPID COOLING, HYPOTHERMIA INDUCING HEADGEAR APPARATUS FOR TISSUE PRESERVATION
20170209306 · 2017-07-27 ·

Hypothermic therapy headgear for patients includes a headpiece for engaging the head of the patient and a cooling member engaged to the headpiece for contacting at least one surface portion of the patient. The cooling member includes at least one cooling surface for contacting the surface portion of the patient, and at least two endothermic reaction components. The endothermic reaction components have an initial state where the endothermic reaction components are separated from contact with each other, and a treatment state in which the endothermic reaction components are placed into contact, wherein an endothermic reaction takes place and cools the cooling surface and the corresponding portion of the patient. An activation device selectively places the endothermic reaction components into the treatment state when a patient is in need of hypothermic therapy. A thermal therapy device and a method for administering thermal therapy are also disclosed.

APPARATUS FOR HEATING OR COOLING A MATERIAL CONTAINED THEREIN

There is described an apparatus for heating or cooling a material to be heated or to be cooled. The apparatus includes: a first compartment for containing the material to be heated or to be cooled; and a second compartment containing a phase change material, wherein the phase change material is either for generating heat to heat the first compartment or absorbing heat to cool the first compartment when undergoing a phase change. There are further described various different activating arrangements for activating a change of phase of the phase change material.
