Ophthalmic cutting instruments having integrated aspiration pump
A device for extracting lens material from an eye including a distal, disposable portion releasably coupleable to a proximal, reusable portion. The disposable portion includes a cutting tube having a distal cutting tip and an inner lumen having an open distal end. The disposable portion includes an aspiration pump fluidly coupled to the inner lumen of the cutting tube and a cutting tube drive mechanism configured to oscillate the cutting tube. The reusable portion includes an aspiration pump motor configured to drive the aspiration pump and a coupler for releasably operatively coupling the pump motor to the aspiration pump. Related devices, systems, and methods are disclosed.
Independent surgical center
A biological tissue cutting and fluid aspiration system provides a plurality of surgical instruments operable independent of an external control console. In some embodiments, each surgical instrument may include all sensors and controls directly applicable to the surgical instrument, and may be used independently. In some embodiments, instruments communicate status information to each other, and adjust operating parameters based on the communications.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR EYE CATARACT REMOVAL
Systems and methods for assisting in the removal of a cataract from an eye can include obtaining pre-operative data for the eye, the pre-operative data including imaging data associated with the lens of the eye, determining a lens density map based on the imaging data associated with the lens, and generating laser fragmentation patterns for a laser fragmentation procedure based on the lens density map.
Tip Detection Apparatus and Method for Medical Device
An apparatus and method of detecting an interchangeable tip of a handpiece of an ocular surgical system is disclosed. The interchangeable tip of the system includes an irrigation port that receives fluid flowing from an irrigation source and an aspiration port that removes or aspirates fluid and/or materials from the surgical field, in particular a patient's eye, through use of an aspiration source or pump. The method comprises attaching the interchangeable tip to the handpiece, introducing fluid flow into the system and determining the fluid flow rate of fluid flow in the system, determining the pressure of fluid flowing into the interchangeable tip, determining the pressure of fluid flowing out of the interchangeable tip and comparing the flow rate and pressure information to known flow rate and pressure readings of known types of interchangeable tips to determine the type of interchangeable tip being used.
OPHTHALMIC KNIFE AND METHODS OF USE
The present invention relates to an ophthalmic knife and methods of its use for treatment of various conditions including eye diseases, such as glaucoma, using minimally invasive surgical techniques. The invention relates to a multi-blade device for cutting the tissues within the eye, for example, a trabecular meshwork (TM).
OPHTHALMOSURGICAL SYSTEM
The invention is directed to an ophthalmosurgical system which includes a console for accommodating an irrigation fluid vessel containing irrigation fluid and a cassette, insertable into the console, for directing the irrigation fluid to a surgical instrument for an eye to be treated. An irrigation fluid flow path leads from the irrigation fluid vessel to the cassette and to the surgical instrument. A first fluid pump includes a first pump chamber having a first volume and a first drive chamber separated therefrom by a first elastic partition and having a second volume. A second fluid pump is arranged in parallel to the first fluid pump and includes a second pump chamber having a third volume and a second drive chamber separated therefrom by a second elastic partition and having a fourth volume. The first volume or the third volume has a magnitude within the range from 1 to 25 cm.sup.3.
Systems and methods for tissue treatment
A system, delivery device and method delivers ultrasonic energy to a target musculoskeletal tissue site. In some embodiments, the delivery device includes a stainless steel needle joined to a horn. In some embodiments, the stainless steel needle is joined to the horn using a heating process or a brazing process.
Elongated needles for ultrasonic applications
This disclosure relates to elongated needle assemblies and methods of their manufacture and use.
Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgical Instrument and Method
Apparatuses and methods for the treatment of glaucoma are provided. The instrument uses either cauterization, a laser to ablate, sonic or ultrasonic energy to emulsify, or mechanical cutting of a portion of the trabecular meshwork. The instrument may also be provided with irrigation, aspiration, and a footplate. The footplate is used to enter Schlemm's canal, serves as a guide, and also protects Schlemm's canal.
Critical alignment of fluidics cassettes
Devices, systems, and methods interface a cassette with an eye treatment system console to provide coupling between the console and an eye treatment probe. The console may receive the cassette using a driven axial translation linkage that inhibits rotation of the cassette. The cassette may facilitate accurately positioning of a pressure sensor relative to a the console by allowing sliding movement between the sensor and a cassette body. Multiple peristaltic drives may be mounted to the console so that their rotors rotate about a common axis. An integrated mount structure may support and/or position components of the console which will interface with cassette, and an axially compressible vacuum connector of the console seal to a tapered vacuum coupler of the cassette.
