Derivation device, derivation method, derivation program, and magnetic tape
A derivation device is a device that derives a reading path by a reading element in a case where plural pieces of data to be read are read from a recording medium, and includes a first derivation unit that derives a value representing a recording density of the data for each of plural areas in which the plural pieces of the data to be read are recorded, and a second derivation unit that derives a path for sequentially reading the data as the reading path for an area in which the value representing the recording density is equal to or larger than a predetermined threshold value and derives the reading path according to a predetermined path determination method for an area in which the value representing the recording density is less than the threshold value.
MAGNETIC TAPE AND MAGENTIC TAPE DEVICE
The magnetic tape has a timing base servo pattern on the magnetic layer, wherein the centerline average surface roughness Ra on the surface of the magnetic layer is less than or equal to 1.8 nm, the magnetic layer contains a fatty acid ester, the full width at half maximum of spacing distribution measured by optical interferometry on the surface of the magnetic layer before and after vacuum heating the magnetic tape is greater than 0 nm but less than or equal to 7.0 nm, the difference of spacing measured by optical interferometry on the surface of the magnetic layer after and before vacuum heating the magnetic tape is greater than 0 nm but less than or equal to 8.0 nm.
Pass-through tape access in a disk storage environment
A command to write data to a virtual location is received at a disk storage system. The virtual location is mapped to a tape storage system. A record is generated including the data, the virtual location, and a sequence value. The sequence value indicates relative sequence when compared to other sequence values. The record is written to a record location on a tape cartridge loaded in a tape drive. Record metadata on the disk storage system is modified to indicate that the first record location contains the first record. The data on the record can be read from the tape cartridge.
Magnetic tape cartridge, recording device, recording method, reproducing system, and reproducing method
A magnetic tape cartridge includes: a magnetic tape on which data is recorded; and a recording medium other than the magnetic tape, and on which a keyword for searching the data recorded on the magnetic tape is recorded.
Magnetic recording medium
A tape-shaped magnetic recording medium includes a substrate; and a magnetic layer that is provided on the substrate and contains a magnetic powder. An average thickness of the magnetic layer is not more than 90 nm, an average aspect ratio of the magnetic powder is not less than 1.0 and not more than 3.0, the coercive force Hc1 in a vertical direction is not more than 3000 Oe, and the coercive force Hc1 in the vertical direction and a coercive force Hc2 in a longitudinal direction satisfy a relationship of Hc2/Hc1≤0.8.
Data storage device reading data from magnetic tape in forward and reverse direction
A data storage device is disclosed comprising at least one head configured to access a magnetic tape. The head is used to write contiguously to the magnetic tape a first preamble, followed by a first sync mark, followed by symbols of a first data sector, followed by a second sync mark, followed by a second preamble, followed by a third sync mark, followed by symbols of a second data sector.
RECORDING DEVICE, RECORDING METHOD, RECORDING PROGRAM, AND MAGNETIC TAPE
A recording device including at least one processor, wherein the processor is configured to: derives a number to be grouped in a case where plural data are collectively recorded on a recording medium based on condition information including a size of the plurality of data to be recorded on the recording medium, a size of metadata related to each of the plurality of data, and an assumed value of a number of the data read out from the recording medium within a period determined in advance; and performs control to collectively record the data on the recording medium for each of the number to be grouped.
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR A LOCAL STORAGE ENGINE COLLABORATING WITH A SOLID STATE DRIVE CONTROLLER
One embodiment provides a system which facilitates data movement. The system allocates, in a volatile memory of a first storage drive, a first region to be accessed directly by a second storage drive or a first NIC. The first storage drive, the second storage drive, and the first NIC are associated with a first server. The system stores data in the first region. Responsive to receiving a first request from the second storage drive to read the data, the system transmits, by the first storage drive to the second storage drive, the data stored in the first region while bypassing a system memory of the first server. Responsive to receiving, from a third storage drive associated with a second server, a second request to read the data, the system retrieves, by the first NIC, the data stored in the first region while bypassing the system memory of the first server.
Method of total dimensional stability control in magnetic tape system with global calibration data
A method for generating calibration data useful for calibrating a plurality of tape cartridges includes the steps of selecting a subset of tape cartridges from the plurality of tape cartridges, the subset of tape cartridges having fewer tape cartridges than the plurality of tape cartridges; calibrating each of the subset of tape cartridges using a plurality of tape drives to generate global calibration data; selecting one of the plurality of tape cartridges that is not included within the subset of tape cartridges; and calibrating the one of the plurality of tape cartridges using the global calibration data generated via the calibrating of each of the subset of tape cartridges.
