To realize efficient access in case of restoring read failure data by RMW at time of data rewriting, a recording apparatus includes a write/read unit capable of performing data writing in a second data unit, in which a plurality of first data units of a predetermined amount of data are consecutive, and data reading in the first data unit with respect to a recording medium and a control unit. In response to a rewrite instruction of data, the control unit instructs the write/read unit to generate write data in the second data unit using update data relevant to the rewrite instruction and recorded data read out from the recording medium and to write the write data at a non-recording address on the recording medium, and generates or updates replacement information for associating address at which the write data is written, as a replacement destination, with address of a replacement source.

Optical disk device and large-scale optical disk device

The optical disk device performs recording/reproducing of data by a predetermined recording block on the track of an optical disk. The device has a recording unit, an optical-head, and a failure detection unit. The recording unit generates a recording signal by modulating the data. The optical-head records data on the track by optical beam emission to the track according to the recording signal, and detects light reflected off the track and then generates a detection signal based on the reflected light. The failure detection unit detects an abnormal condition based on the detection signal changed from a normal condition. If the sum of duration of an abnormal condition in the recording block is equal to or greater than a first time-length, the failure detection unit determines that the recording block has a flaw.

STORAGE CONTROL DEVICE AND STORAGE APPARATUS

A storage control device includes a processor which performs first copy of copying first data stored in a first storage device into a first backup region upon detecting a failure presage in the first storage device. The processor performs first write of writing second data specified in a first write request to the first storage device and second write of writing the second data into the first backup region upon receiving the first write request while performing the first copy. The processor performs second copy of copying third data stored in the first backup region to a second storage device upon completing the first copy. The processor performs third write of writing fourth data specified in a second write request to the second storage device in place of the first storage device upon receiving the second write request after completion of the second copy.

Detection of logical corruption in persistent storage and automatic recovery therefrom

A method, system, and computer program product for restoring blocks of data stored at a corrupted data site using two or more mirror sites. The method commences by receiving a trigger event from a component within an application server environment where the trigger event indicates detection of a corrupted data site. The trigger is classified into at least one of a plurality of trigger event types, which trigger event type signals further processing for retrieving from at least two mirror sites, a first stored data block and a second stored data block corresponding to the same logical block identifier from the first mirror site. The retrieved blocks are compared to determine a match value, and when the match value is greater than a confidence threshold, then writing good data to the corrupted data site before performing consistency checks on blocks in physical or logical proximity to the corrupted data site.

DISC DRIVE CIRCUITRY SWAP

A method comprises creating calibration data using a first control circuitry of an apparatus, replacing the first control circuitry with a second control circuitry in the apparatus, and operating the apparatus with the second control circuitry using the calibration data. As an example, the apparatus may be a disc drive. The second control circuitry may be substantially similar to the first control circuitry such that calibration measurements using the first control circuitry are applicable to the second control circuitry. The first control circuitry may be included in a circuit board that is replaced with a second circuit board including the second control circuitry. In an exemplary embodiment, the second circuit board may include different and/or additional components relative to the first circuit board, such as integrated video inputs and/or video control circuitry.

Rebuilding drive data

The present disclosure provides a system that includes an array of disk drives and a controller communicatively coupled to the array of disk drives. The controller is to identify, within the array of disk drives, a predictive failed disk. The controller also rebuilds data of the predictive failed disk on a spare drive in a regeneration mode and determines a regeneration time baseline. The controller also rebuilds data of the predictive failed disk on the spare drive in a copy mode and determines the copy mode execution time. The controller switches to regeneration mode if the copy mode execution time is greater than the regeneration time baseline.

A method comprises sensing for thermal asperities while sequentially scanning a plurality of tracks of a magnetic recording medium in a first direction relative to an inner or outer diameter of the medium. The method comprises halting the scanning at a first track in response to detecting a thermal asperity at the first track, and skipping a predetermined number of tracks in the first direction to a second track. The method also comprises sensing for the thermal asperity while sequentially scanning the plurality of tracks beginning with the second track in a second direction opposite the first direction. The method further comprises halting the scanning at a third track in response to detecting the thermal asperity at the third track, and logging the first and third tracks as tracks between which the thermal asperity is located.
