Systems and methods for adjusting an angle of incidence of a laser surgery system include a laser source to produce a laser beam and an optical delivery system to output the laser beam pulses to an object at an adjustable incident angle. A first rotator assembly receives the beam from the laser source along a first beam axis. The first rotator assembly rotates around the first beam axis and the first rotator assembly outputs the beam along a second beam axis different from the first beam axis. A second rotator assembly receives the beam from the first rotator assembly along the second beam axis. The second rotator assembly rotates around the second beam axis. The second rotator assembly follows the rotation of the first rotator assembly and the first rotator assembly is independent of the rotation of the second rotator assembly.

In a cataract procedure, a new geometry of a lens segmentation pattern reduces the required phacoemulsification energy to remove the lens. The lens segmentation process employs a three-dimensional spiral lens segmentation pattern that resembles a spiral staircase or a spiral ramp, to incise a vertical cylindrical volume of the lens into a three-dimensional spiral that can be more easily removed. The segmentation patter is formed by scanning the laser focal spot in a layer by layer manner, each layer including a closed curve corresponding to the outer boundary of the segmentation volume, and a filled area inside the closed curve forming a horizontal step of the spiral staircase. The horizontal steps of vertically adjacent layers are offset by an offset angle, creating the spiral lens segmentation pattern that form a spiral volume.

A system for imaging a region of an eye includes a laser source that outputs a laser beam; a first optical subsystem that couples to the eye; a focusing objective coupled with the first optical subsystem and the laser source; a visualization system having a depth of field and a field of view; a movement subsystem that moves the focusing objective and the visualization system; and a control system that controls the movement subsystem and the visualization system to: place the depth of field and the field of view at respective positions relative to a target volume so the volume is within the depth of field and the field of view, obtain an image of the region of the eye, and maintain the position of the field of view of the visualization system relative to the target volume during movement of a laser focus through the target volume.
