The present invention provides an illumination chopper which allows a user to operate on the nucleus of a crystalline lens with a small piece while securing visibility through a chopper which is mounted at one end of an illuminator to form a predetermined angle with the illuminator.

Vacuum loss detection during laser eye surgery

Apparatus to treat an eye with an ophthalmic laser system comprises a patient interface having an annular retention structure to couple to an anterior surface of the eye. The retention structure is coupled to a suction line to couple the retention structure to the eye with suction. Liquid is added above the eye to act as a transmissive medium. A coupling sensor is coupled to the suction line to determine coupling of the retention structure to the eye. A separate pressure monitoring circuit having a much smaller volume than the suction line is connected to the annular retention structure to measure suction pressure therein. A system processor coupled to the monitoring pressure sensor includes instructions to interrupt firing of a laser when the pressure measured with a monitoring pressure sensor rises above a threshold amount.

System for therapy of the eye by treating tissue using non-linear interaction

A system for therapy of the eye by treating tissue with therapeutic radiation using nonlinear interaction. A laser device is provided, which delivers the therapeutic radiation. The therapeutic radiation is focussed by a focussing device in an image field, and xy scanners and z scanners shift the focus laterally and longitudinally within a treatment volume. The therapeutic radiation is either a second short pulse radiation or a first short pulse radiation, each of which have a spectral centroid within a wavelength range defined by the short pulse properties. The system is particularly corrected with regard to longitudinal chromatic aberrations and lateral chromatic aberrations such that the spectral characteristic curves of the two aberrations each have a local extreme within the wavelength ranges, and a certain tolerance within the wavelength ranges is not exceeded, therefore the characteristic curves are very shallow.

SURGICAL INSTRUMENT FOR MINIMALLY INVASIVE ASPIRATION OF TISSUE

An apparatus for disruption of tissue. The apparatus includes a housing; a source of pulsed laser radiation; and an optical waveguide. The optical waveguide is configured to transmit the pulsed laser radiation from the source of pulsed laser radiation, and is coupleable to the source of pulsed laser radiation at a proximal end of the optical waveguide to receive the pulsed laser radiation from the source of pulsed laser radiation. The apparatus also includes a driving mechanism coupled to the optical waveguide for controllably changing the position of the optical waveguide relative to a distal end of the housing.

Methods and systems for laser ophthalmic surgery that provide for iris exposures below a predetermined exposure limit

A laser surgical method for performing a corneal incision while maintaining iris exposure below a predetermined exposure limit includes: determining an initial iris exposure based on an initial treatment scan, determining whether the initial iris exposure is less than the predetermined exposure limit; generating a revised treatment scan comprising one or more treatment scan modifying elements when the initial iris exposure is greater than the predetermined exposure limit, and scanning the focal zone of a pulsed laser beam according to the revised treatment scan, thereby performing the corneal incision, wherein the one or more treatment scan modifying elements causes the iris exposure to be smaller than the predetermined exposure limit.

The present disclosure provides a femtosecond laser docking apparatus that includes a suction cone, with an upper frusto-conical portion and lower spherical portion, and a suction ring, with a mechanical stop and at least one contact and sealing surface. The mechanical stop engages the spherical portion of the suction cone to prevent it from being lowered further toward an eye, in a z-direction, beyond the mechanical stop. This disclosure provides a system for femtosecond laser ophthalmic surgery that includes a suction cone, with an upper frusto-conical portion and lower spherical portion, and a suction ring. This disclosure further provides a method for docking a femtosecond laser that includes positioning a suction ring on an eye, lowering a suction cone toward the eye until it engages the mechanical stop of the suction ring, and applying suction to seal the suction cone to the suction ring by a contact and sealing surface.

DARK FIELD REFLECTOMETRY

Technologies are generally described to enhance a signal-to-noise ratio of reflectometry in laser treatment observation through capture of light scattered to the edge of the pupil and filtering of light scattered back around a center of the pupil. Thus, laser light reflected from the treatment site may be spatially filtered to remove a portion of the reflected laser light within a pre-selected angle from a normal of the eye. The captured laser light may be processed to observe an effect of the directed laser beam at the treatment site. The signal-to-noise ratio of the reflectometry may be increased through the spatial filtering.

Ophthalmological Device For Intra-Capsular Fragmentation of a Lens Nucleus
20210128360 · 2021-05-06 ·

An ophthalmological device for intracapsular fragmentation of a lens nucleus of an eye comprises a laser source, a focusing optical module, and a scanner system for moving a focus to target locations in the lens nucleus. For the fragmentation of the lens nucleus, an electronic circuit controls the scanner system to move the focus to intracapsular target locations on cutting planes which extend from a posterior surface to an anterior surface of the lens nucleus. The cutting planes form a maximum of two intracapsular intersecting lines on any of the cutting planes. Two of the cutting planes are arranged at a mutual distance larger than a diameter of a phaco handpiece tip and divide the lens nucleus into three fragments.

Treatment to improve adhesive properties of corneal implant

A method is described of improving adhesion of an ocular implant to corneal tissue by forming an implant adhesive layer on the ocular implant, the implant adhesive layer having greater adhesive strength than a rest of the implant or by forming a corneal adhesive layer on a posterior surface of a posterior portion of the corneal tissue, the corneal adhesive layer having greater adhesive strength than a rest of the corneal tissue.
