DATA STORAGE DEVICE FILTER
A breather filter for reducing water in a data storage device housing includes an outer layer, an inner layer, and an intermediary layer positioned between the inner and outer layers. The outer layer includes an outer layer of hydrophilic material. The inner layer includes at least one of an inner layer of hydrophobic material and an inner layer of hydrophilic material. The intermediary layer includes a water adsorbing material, and fibers that promote water permeation from the inner layer to the outer layer.
Container flange configurations with increased diffusion length for hermetic sealing of data storage systems and devices
A hermetically-sealed container for one or more data storage devices may include a first container part or base including a planar main portion, a plurality of sidewalls extending from the main portion, and a plurality of diffusion length extender flanges extending inward or outward from a corresponding sidewall. A pressure-sensitive adhesive tape, including a layer of adhesive and a layer of low-permeability material, is positioned at the interface or edge of each flange to hermetically seal the container, whereby the diffusion length corresponding to the leakage of gas from the hermetically-sealed container corresponds generally to the width of the flange(s). The hermetically-sealed container may then be filled with a lighter-than-air gas such as helium.
Humidity control for enclosure
Aspects of this disclosure are directed to methods, apparatuses and approaches involving the use of a moisture absorbing material (e.g., desiccant) to control moisture. As may be implemented consistent with one or more embodiments, moisture is removed from an environmental control module that includes a desiccant material contained within a package. Liquid is deposited inside the package and sealed with the desiccant in the package.
TAPE DRIVE CORROSION PROTECTION
A system and method for corrosion protection of a tape drive. The system includes: the tape drive, a temperature sensor, a heating entity and a controller for activating the heating entity. The method includes: establishing, via the temperature sensor, temperature information indicative of a temperature in an area of, or within, the tape drive; receiving the temperature information at the controller; and activating the heating entity in a manner dependent on the temperature information established via the temperature sensor in order to prevent corrosion within the tape drive.
System and Method for Controlling Environmental Conditions within an Automated Data Storage Library
A system and method for controlling at least one environmental condition within at least one data storage library. The system may include at least one data storage library, the at least one data storage library having at least one component bay therein. The system may also include at least one adapter configured to fit within the at least one component bay, and/or at least one environmental conditioning device connected to the at least one adapter, wherein the at least one environmental conditioning device is configured to control at least one environmental condition within the at least one data storage library.
Data Storage Library with Interior Access Regulation
A data storage library system includes at least one data storage library comprising at least one library frame and at least one environmental conditioning unit, the at least one environmental conditioning unit configured to control one or more environmental conditions within the at least one library frame. The system further includes at least one access door for providing access to an interior portion of the data storage library, a library controller, and at least one warning indicator associated with the data storage library and in electronic communication with the library controller. The at least one warning indicator is configured to provide an indication to an operator when the conditions within the data storage library are such that the at least one access door may be opened and when the conditions within the data storage library are such that the access door should not be opened.
Preventing condensation in a tape library
In an approach for preventing damage to a tape library, a processor receives a first sensor reading, wherein the first sensor is located within a tape library. A processor receives a second sensor reading, wherein the second sensor is located external to the tape library. A processor determines that the second sensor reading is greater than or equal to the first sensor reading. A processor receives an indication that a door to the tape library is open. Responsive to receiving the indication that the door to the tape library is open, a processor disables a fan.
