APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR EAR PROTECTION AND ENHANCEMENT

Apparatus for protection of the ear and ear canal, and related methods of use and operation. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a selectively actuated valve which permits a varying or modulated size of aperture to be created by the wearer while the apparatus is in use, so as to accommodate varying functions, such as complete occlusion (e.g., for use in swimming or other acquatic activities such that water can be completely excluded) or partial occlusion (e.g., such that sounds can be heard by the wearer, whether in air or under water). In one implementation, the apparatus is retained within the ear canal of the wearer by virtue of the apparatus' shape and coordination with one or more natural features or contours of the anatomy in the ear region, without having to be inserted more than superficially into the outer portion of the ear canal.

Adhesive earplugs useful for sealing the ear canal

Systems and methods are provided for sealing an ear canal for retaining a solution in the ear canal. Adhesive earplugs are provided through which the solution can be delivered, and which, following delivery, retain the fluid in the ear canal. The systems and methods may also be useful for delivering an anesthetizing solution to the ear canal of a human patient and for maintaining the solution therein for use with an iontophoresis system for anesthetizing the tympanic membrane.

System for accurate measurement of dynamics and kinematics

A sensor insert is provided for measuring head dynamics and kinematics. The sensor insert includes at least one sensor embedded in the insert. The insert is configured to fit relatively substantially immovably within a portion of a user's external auditory canal passing through the temporal bone. A system including the sensor and insert further includes an electronic data collection and processing unit connected to the sensor. A method of measuring head dynamics and kinematics involves use of the aforementioned system to detect and collect data measuring head dynamics and kinematics of a user's skull for analysis thereof.

An earpiece including an intra-auricular support, a projection element coupled thereto, and a flexible body disposed thereon and inside an external ear canal of an ear, and a moldable earpiece material moldable about the intra-auricular support to conform to the auricle of an ear and curable to provide a fixed configuration of the earpiece.

EARPLUG AND METHOD FOR ATTENUATING SOUND
20190321230 · 2019-10-24 ·

An earplug and method for attenuating sound. An acoustic canal extends straight through a housing to guide the sound inside an ear canal. The acoustic canal comprises a canal section dimensioned to fit at least partially inside the ear canal. The canal section ends at one side in a first exterior opening to let the sound into the ear canal. Another side of the canal section transitions into a first resonance volume with a relatively wide diameter. A second resonance volume ends at one side in a second exterior opening and, the other side being separated from the first resonance volume by a sound attenuating mesh. This provides resonance cavities that compensate attenuation of the mesh over a wide range of high frequencies.

Push-in earplug

A push-in earplug including an elongate core and outer layer is disclosed. The outer layer includes a sound attenuating portion having a first average density and a stem portion having a second average density, and the second average density is greater than the first average density.

Selective attenuating earplug

A selective attenuating earplug is provided. In an exemplary embodiment, a selective attenuating earplug includes a switch adjustable between a first position and a second position, and the switch includes at least one cantilever spring arm.

Interactive air pressure exchange system

In-ear monitors, earphones and noise-attenuating earplugs are provided with a vent to improve insertion, removal and wearing comfort, and to protect delicate audio drivers from excessive pressure excursions. The vent is fitted with a pressure-management material such as a viscoelastic open-cell foam to control the rate at which air can pass through the vent. The pressure-management material permits tuning of the vent to achieve acoustically flat attenuation of ambient sound.

PERSONALIZABLE SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR ANESTHETIZING THE TYMPANIC MEMBRANE

Systems and methods are provided for anesthetizing a tympanic membrane of an ear. The systems are personalizable to ensure proper anesthetizing solution administration. The systems and methods may also be useful for administering a solution to the ear canal of a human patient and for maintaining the solution therein.
