Tape measure
A tape measure comprises a housing containing a tape, spring, reel, and hub, with first seal(s) to seal between the reel cartridge and the hub and/or to seal between the reel and the housing and/or a part fixed to the housing. An outermost coil of the spring may extend out of an opening in the reel and be attached to an innermost coil of the tape, and a second seal may be provided on the reel, to seal between the spring and the reel where the spring extends from the reel. Alternatively, the spring may be contained within the reel, and an outermost coil of the spring may be attached to an interior of the reel. An exterior of the reel may include an attachment portion to which an innermost coil of the tape is attached. The housing may be openable to enable contaminants to be removed from the housing.
Tape measure with variable preformed stressed spiral spring retraction system
A tool, such as a tape measure, including a spring-based retraction system is shown. The spring-based retraction system is driven by a spiral spring, that has a variable preformed stress profile along the length of the spring.
Tape Measure with Variable Preformed Stressed Spiral Spring Retraction System
A tool, such as a tape measure, including a spring-based retraction system is shown. The spring-based retraction system is driven by a spiral spring, that has a variable preformed stress profile along the length of the spring.
Tape Measure Housing with Extended Mouth and Finger Brake Opening
A tape measure includes a housing comprising first and second housing portions together defining a mouth, and separated by a seam; and a spool configured to be secured between the first and second housing portions, the spool containing a tape blade wound thereon and partially extending therefrom through the mouth, the tape blade terminating in a hook portion. The seam is formed both above the mouth and at a side of the mouth, such that a structure of the first housing portion extends at least substantially an entire width of the mouth, under the tape blade. The tape blade is biased to retract into the housing and wind around the spool, such that in a fully retracted position the hook portion abuts the structure of the first housing portion. In an extended position the tape blade is unwound from the spool such that the hook extends away from the mouth.
TAPE MEASURE WITH POP OUT BLADE PRESENTATION
A retractable rule assembly comprises a housing, a reel, an elongated blade, a hook, a coil spring, and a blade advancer. The reel is rotatably mounted in the housing. The elongated blade is wound on the reel and is constructed and arranged to extend outwardly through an opening in the housing. The hook is positioned on a distal end of the blade. The coil spring is configured to rotate the reel in the housing assembly in a direction to wind up the elongated blade when extending outwardly of the housing. The blade advancer is constructed and arranged to be manually engaged and moved relative to the housing and into contact with the blade and/or the reel. The blade advancer is movable against a bias of the coil spring to advance the blade in a direction that extends the blade outwardly from the housing.
Tape measure with variable preformed stressed spiral spring retraction system
A tool, such as a tape measure, including a spring-based retraction system is shown. The spring-based retraction system is driven by a spiral spring, that has a variable preformed stress profile along the length of the spring.
Tape measure with tape blade profile increasing tape standout
A tape measure, including a tape measure blade having a cross-sectional profile to increase standout is provided. The profile has a curved shape that increases standout. The tape blade may have a flat width greater than 33 mm.
Tape Measure with Variable Preformed Stressed Spiral Spring Retraction System
A tool, such as a tape measure, including a spring-based retraction system is shown. The spring-based retraction system is driven by a spiral spring, that has a variable preformed stress profile along the length of the spring.
Tape measure with flexure for lock linkage
A tape measure device comprising a housing at includes a reel that support a tape measure, a linkage travel pathway, and an external locking mechanism configured to be engaged by a user to lock the tape measure at some extended position. According to this disclosure, a lock linkage flexure that transmits translational force but without requiring a straight line path to do so is supporting in the linkage travel pathway. In one embodiment, the flexure is implemented as a metal linkage that is constrained in the curved travel pathway and maintains a low profile as it is actuated by the lock action (whether in an auto-lock configuration or fixed lock format). The metal linkage travels through the define pathway to guide and direct the motion.
Tape Measure with Tape Blade Profile Increasing Tape Standout
A tape measure, including a tape measure blade having a cross-sectional profile to increase standout is provided. The profile has a curved shape that increases standout. The tape blade may have a flat width of 35 mm to 38 mm.
