In one embodiment, a method includes collecting, by a magnetic navigation device, magnetic measurements of a particular geographical region in accordance with a position and trajectory of the magnetic navigation device; accessing a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) signal status and a network connection status on the magnetic navigation device; determining an operational mode for the magnetic navigation device based on the GNSS signal status and the network connection status; determining whether to transmit the magnetic measurements to a server or store the magnetic measurements locally on the magnetic navigation device based on the operational mode; and performing navigation or localization operations using the operational mode.

The method comprises breaking each response into a set of components. The method comprises, based on the set of components, matching the address and each response in the set of components; based on the match, calculating a string similarity score and a component match score of each response between the address and each response. The method comprises sorting the responses based on the string similarity score of each response and the component match score of each response. The method comprises selecting a first response of the set of responses after sorting as the best response. The method comprises calculating a confidence score of the first response, wherein the confidence score is calculated using a formula which depends on the string similarity score and the component match score of the first response.

A method is disclosed for analyzing historical accident information to adjust driving actions of an autonomous vehicle over a travel route in order to avoid accidents which have occurred over the travel route. Historical accident information for the travel route can be analyzed to, for example, determine accident types which occurred over the travel route and determine causes and/or probable causes of the accident types. In response to determining accident types and causes / probable causes of the accident types over the travel route, adjustments can be made to the driving actions planned for the autonomous vehicle over the travel route. In addition, in an embodiment, historical accident information can be used to analyze available travel routes and select a route which presents less risk of accident than others.
