PASSIVE INFRARED SENSOR SYSTEMS AND METHODS
A passive infrared (PIR) sensor system, includes a PIR sensor configured to produce an output signal in response to receiving infrared (IR) radiation, an electronic shutter positionable in a field of view (FOV) of the PIR sensor, wherein the electronic shutter includes a liquid crystal (LC) material, wherein the electronic shutter includes a first state providing a first transmissivity of IR radiation through the electronic shutter and a second state providing a second transmissivity of IR radiation through the electronic shutter that is less than the first transmissivity, and a shutter actuator configured to apply an actuation signal to the electronic shutter to actuate the electronic shutter between the first state and the second state.
INFRARED DETECTION DEVICE
An infrared-detecting device, includes an infrared detector configured to emit a signal representative of the thermal radiation of a hotspot, and a light source configured to emit an incident beam, preferably in a window of UV or visible wavelength. The infrared-detecting device furthermore comprises a synchronizing device connected to the light source and to the infrared detector or to the processing module, and configured to emit a synchronization signal, the infrared detector being configured to be activated in a preset time window depending on said synchronization signal.
Transmission-Based Temperature Measurement of a Workpiece in a Thermal Processing System
A thermal processing system for performing thermal processing can include a workpiece support plate configured to support a workpiece and heat source(s) configured to heat the workpiece. The thermal processing system can include window(s) having transparent region(s) that are transparent to electromagnetic radiation within a measurement wavelength range and opaque region(s) that are opaque to electromagnetic radiation within a portion of the measurement wavelength range. A temperature measurement system can include a plurality of infrared emitters configured to emit infrared radiation and a plurality of infrared sensors configured to measure infrared radiation within the measurement wavelength range where the transparent region(s) are at least partially within a field of view the infrared sensors. A controller can be configured to perform operations including obtaining transmittance and reflectance measurements associated with the workpiece and determining, based on the measurements, a temperature of the workpiece less than about 600° C.

A pyroelectric presence identification system includes focal plane array and a processor coupled to the focal plane array. The focal plane array includes a first image sensor and a plurality of second image sensors configured to convert radiant energy into an electrical signal. The processor is configured to control the focal plane array in a sleep mode wherein the first image sensor is utilized to detect gross motion of at least one presence and the plurality of second image sensors are de-energized.

CHOPPED PASSIVE INFRARED SENSOR APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR STATIONARY AND MOVING OCCUPANT DETECTION
A chopped PIR (C-PIR) sensor is capable of detecting both stationary and moving objects with a high degree of accuracy using a narrow infrared semi-transparent chopper to temporally shutter incident radiation received by pyroelectric sensing elements. Demonstrating a field of view of 110 (horizontal) and 90 (vertical), the C-PIR sensor can detect stationary objects located within 4 m of the sensor, and moving objects located within 8 m of the sensor with 100% accuracy.
CALIBRATION MECHANISM FOR THERMAL IMAGING SYSTEMS
A method and an imaging system for providing an infrared image of an object comprises an optical element configured to capture infrared radiation from the object, an infrared sensing module, a processing unit, and a shutter assembly. The infrared sensing module comprises a plurality of infrared detectors, each configured to receive the infrared radiation from the object after passage through the optical element and generate a measurement signal from the received infrared radiation. The processing unit is coupled to the infrared sensing module and configured to convert the measurement signals into temperature data associated with the object for providing the infrared image. The shutter assembly is disposed between the infrared sensing module and the optical element, and is configured to selectively pass the infrared radiation from the object through to the infrared sensing module. The shutter assembly comprises a temperature controller configured to adjust a temperature of the shutter assembly.
