A method of identifying a type of plumbing system of a building is provided. The method includes determining a spectral energy ratio as a function of first pressure data acquired during a first time period in which a water flow through a plumbing system of a building is below a threshold. The method also includes determining a multimodal test value as a function of second pressure data acquired during a second time period that includes at least some time during which the water flow through the plumbing system is greater than or equal to the threshold. Further, the method includes identifying a type of the plumbing system of the building as a function of the spectral energy ratio and the multimodal test value.

Method of detecting and identifying underground leaking pipes
11598689 · 2023-03-07 ·

A method of detecting and identifying leaking underground pipes for properties having a slab or other type of foundation with a plurality of manifolds utilized to distribute water in the plumbing system of the property. The method includes identifying and detecting a starting fixture to start testing to determine a possible location of an underground leak and performing a series of temperature test checks to determine a number of relevant factors, including, whether an underground leak is before or after a manifold, the feed lines and/or distribution lines of a manifold, and a destination of the distribution lines of the manifold. The series of temperature tests using heating and cooling elements identifies which pipeline contains the underground leak and identifies the point where the pipeline enters a ground (Point A) and the exit point where the pipe exits a ground (Point B) in order to mark these specific pipelines.

METHOD FOR LOCATING A LEAK IN A WATER SUPPLY NETWORK

Devices, systems and methods for leak detection are provided herein. Also provided are devices, systems and methods for monitoring and/or measuring fluid usage. In some aspects, a system comprising a sensor, a processing system, and a platform are provided. In some aspects, the sensor may be coupled to a spinning device. The sensor can be configured to detect fluid data, which can comprise, for example, displacement data of liquid and/or movement data associated with the liquid in a container and/or flow data associated with a flow of fluid in a conduit. The processing system can be coupled with the sensor and configured to communicate the fluid data. The platform can comprise an application communicatively coupled to one or more databases storing evaluation data (e.g., known pattern data) and configured to receive the fluid data and determine if there is a leak.

COORDINATED ACOUSTIC LEAK DETECTION SENSOR SAMPLING

A leak detection sensor may be capable of dynamically adjusting a sampling time for acoustic data based on monitored fluid flow. The leak detection sensor monitors leak detection information associated with a fluid in a fluid transporting medium over a predetermined time interval, where the leak detection information comprises flow and pressure of the fluid in the fluid transporting medium, and processing the leak detection data monitored at the sampling time in the predetermined time interval, where the sampling time is determined based at least in part on the monitored flow of the fluid.

Using at least one sensor positioned to monitor a fluid conduit, an acoustic event is detected. A speed of sound of the acoustic event is determined. The speed of sound of the acoustic event is compared to a baseline speed of sound. Based on the comparison, whether or not a leak has occurred in the fluid conduit may be determined.
