NASAL-SPRAY SAMPLING
A method is provided that includes intranasally dispensing nasal wash fluid into a nasal cavity of a subject such that the nasal wash fluid washes biological material into an oropharynx of the subject from (a) the nasal cavity, (b) a nasopharynx of the subject, or (c) the nasal cavity and the nasopharynx. The method further includes, thereafter, collecting a specimen sample that passed out of an anterior opening of an oral cavity of the subject and contains at least a portion of the biological material washed into the oropharynx by the nasal wash fluid. Thereafter, information is derived from extracellular vesicles present in the specimen sample. Other embodiments are also described.
Filter insert and sample vial using the same
A filter insert, a sample vial incorporating a filter insert, a method of using a sample vial containing a filter insert for chemical analysis, and a sample vial kit including a filter insert. The filter insert includes a cylindrical body having a proximal end, a protrusion extending radially from the proximal end of the cylindrical body and configured to set on the open end of a sample vial, a distal end, a cavity extending longitudinally through the cylindrical body from the proximal end to the distal end, and a filter assembly coupled with the distal end of the cylindrical body.
DEVICE AND METHOD FOR GENETIC ANALYSIS OF PLANT MATERIALS IN REMOTE TESTING SITES
Embodiments of the invention relate to devices for assaying a biomolecule from a plant sample including: a microfluidic cartridge for assaying a biomolecule from a plant sample, including: a top layer; and a bottom layer spaced apart from the top layer in a generally parallel orientation with respect to the top layer, the bottom layer defining a plurality of wells therein that protrude from a surface of the bottom layer; and a filter module for filtering the plant sample, including a filter body defining: an upper portion including an inlet structure forming an inlet channel; and a bottom portion configured to accept and secure a filter membrane. The filter body is configured to accept a microvolume aliquot of the plant sample, the bottom structure includes an outlet structure forming an outlet channel on an outlet side of the filter membrane, and at least one of the plurality of wells includes an assay reagent solution.
Environmental sampling chamber
An environmental sampling chamber for sampling the particulates and substances emitted from a test sample when the surface of the sample is ablated. The sampling chamber avoids the need for clean rooms and other expensive testing apparatus and can be used to test a variety of materials in accordance with standard measurement procedures. Use of the testing chamber and methods assists with safety and risk evaluation in applications such as painting and removal of coatings.
Method and apparatus for processing tissue samples
A system, methods, and apparatus are described to collect and prepare single cells, nuclei, subcellular components, and biomolecules from specimens including tissues and in some embodiments use the single cells to form organoids or microtissues. The system can perform enzymatic and/or physical disruption of the tissue to dissociate it into single-cells and then use a hanging droplet method to form organoids or microtissues.
FILTRATION SAMPLING DEVICES
A sampling device is provided for concentrating a liquid specimen sample, including a filtration assembly, which includes a tubular container and a plunger. The plunger includes a plunger head and a plunger rod that is shaped so as to define an internal plunger space having a plunger-space proximal opening through a proximal end of the plunger rod. The sampling device is configured such that a filter is removable from the tubular container via the plunger-space proximal opening while the plunger head is within the tubular container. Other embodiments are also described.
Agricultural Sampling System and Related Methods
An automated computer-controlled sampling system and related methods for collecting, processing, and analyzing agricultural samples for various chemical properties such as plant available nutrients. The sampling system allows multiple samples to be processed and analyzed for different analytes or chemical properties in a simultaneous concurrent or semi-concurrent manner. Advantageously, the system can process soil samples in the “as collected” condition without drying or grinding. The system generally includes a sample preparation sub-system which receives soil samples collected by a probe collection sub-system and produces a slurry (i.e. mixture of soil, vegetation, and/or manure and water), and a chemical analysis sub-system which processes the prepared slurry samples for quantifying multiple analytes and/or chemical properties of the sample. The sample preparation and chemical analysis sub-systems can be used to analyze soil, vegetation, and/or manure samples. A soil collection system is disclosed which captures and directs samples to the sampling system for processing.

FILTRATION UNIT, METHOD FOR PRODUCING SAME, METHOD FOR DETECTING MICROORGANISMS AND USE OF THE FILTRATION UNIT
The present invention relates to a filtration unit with a filtration membrane, nutritive cardboard disc and, if necessary, a support structure, wherein the nutritive cardboard disc and/or the support structure comprises a solid, water-soluble nutrient medium and a water-soluble and/or water-swellable polymer, a method for producing the filtration unit, a method for detecting microorganisms in a fluid, wherein the filtration unit is used, and the use of the filtration unit for detecting microorganisms in a fluid.
METHODS OF MEMBRANE-BASED PROTEOMIC SAMPLE PREPARATION
A method for rapid isolation of a biological compound (e.g. protein) from an aqueous sample is described herein. The method uses a porous hydrophobic membrane that has an average pore size significantly greater than the size of the biological compound. The method permits the biological compound to attach to the membrane while the aqueous solvent rapidly moves through the membrane under the application of a vacuum. The biological compound that is attached to the membrane can be washed, optionally digested, and eluted for analysis.
