METHOD OF DETECTING COATING WEAR
20230204343 · 2023-06-29 ·

A method of inspecting a component includes the steps of identifying a component having an outer surface of a first hardness, and mounted with a holding member of a second hardness which is greater than the first hardness. A protective coating is provided about the first component, and the protective coating having a dye which absorbs a particular range of electromagnetic wavelengths. The amount of the dye remaining in the coating is inspected to identify an amount of wear of the coating.

METHODS OF IN-LINE EXTRUDATE INSPECTION AND FEEDBACK CONTROL FOR HONEYCOMB BODY MANUFACTURE
20170355102 · 2017-12-14 ·

In-line inspection and control system to in-situ monitor an extrudate during extrusion. A light beam illuminates a line on the outside circumference of the extrudate skin recording the curvature. A master profile of the illuminated defect-free skin is recorded and compared to successive monitoring of the illuminated skin. Differences from the comparison indicate skin and/or shape defects. A real-time feedback to automatically adjust process control hardware reduces or eliminates the skin and shape defects based on the monitoring and comparison.

Methods and systems for real-time, in-process measurement of coatings on substrates of aerospace components

A method for measuring the thickness of coatings on a substrate of an aerospace component comprises illuminating a sample comprising the substrate of the aerospace component and a coating with light waves of varying wavelengths from a light source, receiving the light waves reflected by the sample at a light collector, diffracting the light waves into a plurality of component wavelengths with a grating, detecting the light intensities of the plurality of component wavelengths at a detector array, generating a reflectance spectral curve using the detected light intensities for each of the plurality of component wavelengths, calculating the thickness of the coating from the reflectance spectral curves of the component wavelengths.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CHECKING TYRES IN A PRODUCTION LINE

A method and apparatus for checking tyres in a tyre production line. The method includes alternately illuminating, with a first and second grazing light radiation, a surface portion of the tyre and respectively acquiring a first and second two-dimensional digital image of the illuminated surface portion. For each point of the surface portion, the respective overall light power of the first and second light radiation incident at the point respectively comes from two half-spaces that are opposite with respect to an optical plane passing through the perpendicular to the surface at the point; and comparing the first and second image to obtain information on an altimetric profile of the surface portion.

IMAGING SYSTEM MOUNTABLE TO A BEARING RING
20230175924 · 2023-06-08 ·

An imaging system is for recording images of a raceway of a bearing ring, the ring having two opposing axial ends, a central axis extending between the axial ends, and inner and outer circumferential surfaces. The raceway is formed on the inner circumferential surface or the outer circumferential surface of the ring and has first and second ends spaced along the central axis. The imaging system includes a frame movably coupleable with the bearing ring and having a centerline. A drive is mounted to the frame and is configured to angularly displace the frame about the bearing central axis. An optical imager has a lens and an adjustable positioner is mounted on the frame and is configured to position the optical imager such that the lens is disposed axially between the raceway first and second ends and faces generally perpendicular to the bearing raceway.
