Electromagnetic imaging for structural inspection
An apparatus and method provides for nondestructive inspection of a generally tubular target structure (such as a wellbore casing) by rolling contact engagement of one or more rolling probe devices with the target structure. Each rolling probe device carries electromagnetic (EM) measurement instrumentation to capture measurement data during rolling contact engagement with the casing. Each rolling probe device may comprise an instrumentation carrier (e.g., a roller or a wheel) having an endless tread surface to engage the target structure, with the EM measurement instrumentation extending along the endless tread surface and being located at or adjacent an exterior of the instrumentation carrier. A plurality of such rolling instrumentation carriers can be mounted at azimuthally spaced positions on a tool body configured for axial movement along a wellbore.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR DETERMINING THE INTEGRITY OF A TUBE
An apparatus for determining the integrity of a tube is provided. The apparatus includes: a body having an extension mechanism and configured to be inserted into the tube; and a flexible eddy current sensor including a flexible housing coupled to the body via the extension mechanism, and one or more coils disposed in the flexible housing. The flexible housing is selectively extendable via the extension mechanism between a first position and a second position. The one or more coils are farther away from the body when the flexible housing is in the second position than when the flexible housing is in the first position. The one or more coils electrically couple with an interior surface of the tube when the flexible housing is in the second position, and the flexible eddy current sensor is operative to selectively induce electrical currents within the tube via the one or more coils.
Magnetic inspection systems for inspection of target objects
Inspection systems provided herein include drive coils capable of being excited to generate a substantially uniform magnetic field about an object. The object includes a ferromagnetic adhesive adhered thereto. The inspection systems may also include an array of sensor coils adapted to detect the magnetic field from the drive coils after the magnetic field interacts with the ferromagnetic adhesive and to produce a voltage output corresponding to the detected magnetic field.
Method and Apparatus for Synthetic Magnetic Sensor Aperture Using Eddy Current Time Transient Measurement for Downhole Applications
A method of creating a synthetic aperture. The method may comprise identifying a static configuration, inputting the static configuration into a dynamic controller, configuring a transmitter with the dynamic controller, and configuring a receiver with the dynamic controller. The method may further comprise inputting operational variables and environmental variables into a dynamic configuration, inputting the dynamic configuration into the dynamic controller, and re-configuring the transmitter and the receiver with the dynamic controller.
NON-CONTACT SPEED ENCODER
An eddy current (EC) detection system comprises an EC probe including a plurality of sensors to provide corresponding EC response signals; and processing circuitry to evaluate speed of the EC probe based on a measurement of similarity of the EC response signals; determine whether the speed of the EC probe is too fast or two slow based on quality of the measurement; and generate a command to adjust speed of the EC probe during further EC the inspection.
LEAKAGE-FLUX FLAW DETECTION DEVICE
A leakage-flux flaw detection device includes a plurality of leakage-flux flaw detectors provided at positions not in contact with a steel strip and arranged in a width direction of the steel strip, wherein the leakage-flux flaw detectors each include a rotating disk that faces a surface subjected to flaw detection of the steel strip and that rotates, and a plurality of defect detection heads installed at different positions in a circumferential direction on the rotating disk, that perform direct-current magnetization of the steel strip, and detect leakage flux leaking from a linear defect due to the direct-current magnetization, wherein at least one of the plurality of defect detection heads has an inclination angle different from inclination angles of other defect detection heads, the inclination angle being defined by a tangent line of a rotation trajectory and the magnetization direction at an installation position of the defect detection head.
Eddy current flaw detection probe
An eddy current flaw detection probe includes first coils, second coils, and a switching circuit configured to cause the first or the second coils in each unit U, the unit U being composed of adjacent four coils, to serve as excitation coils that generate eddy currents in an inspection target and cause the other coils in the unit U to serve as detection coils that detect a change in the eddy currents. The first coils each have one end thereof connected to a first common wiring, and the second coils each have one end thereof connected to a second common wiring. The switching circuit includes a first switching circuit connected to the other ends of the first coils and the second coils arranged in a first row, and a second switching circuit connected to the other ends of the first coils and the second coils arranged in a second row.

Hoses, and detecting failures in reinforced hoses
A hose includes a generally cylindrical tubular structure with at least one layer of steel ligaments near the outer surface, the steel ligaments being enclosed within a tubular layer including polymeric material; the flexible hose also incorporates a multiplicity of sensing coils embedded within the tubular layer, each such sensing coil being a flat coil lying in a plane substantially parallel to the adjacent layer of steel ligaments, so that an axis of the coil orthogonal to the plane of the flat coil extends in a radial direction relative to the hose. Each such sensing coil may form part of an electronic module that also incorporates a signal processing circuit and an RE power-receiving and data-transmission circuit. When that portion of the hose is subjected to an alternating magnetic field, signals from the sensing coils can be analysed to deduce information about the stress in the steel ligaments.
