The present disclosure provides a system and method for real-time visualization of a material during ultrasonic non-destructive testing. The system includes a graphical user interface (GUI) capable of showing a three-dimensional (3-D) image of a composite laminate constructed of a series of two-dimensional (2-D) cross sections. The GUI is capable of displaying the 3-D image as each additional 2-D cross section is scanned by an ultrasonic testing apparatus in real time or near real time, including probable defect regions that contain a flaw such as a hole, crack, wrinkle, or foreign object within the composite. Furthermore, in one embodiment, the system includes an artificial intelligence capable of highlighting defect areas within the 3-D image in real time or near real time and providing data regarding each defect area, such as the depth, size, and/or type of each defect.
ULTRASONIC DETECTION AND TENSILE CALIBRATION TEST METHOD FOR BONDING STRENGTH GRADE
An ultrasonic detection and tensile calibration test method for bonding strength grade comprising bonding an upper substrate block to bonding groove(s) to form a theoretical bonding area, and applying a downward actual tensile force to a lower substrate block; obtaining an actual bonding area of the theoretical bonding area; calculating a first actual bonding strength by using the actual tensile force and the actual bonding area, and comparing the first actual bonding strength with a second actual bonding strength calculated to verify the correctness of the theoretical bonding area as a calibrated bonding strength; forming a bond strength table in which the theoretical bonding areas, the actual bonding areas and the first actual bonding strengths are in one-to-one correspondence; and using the actual bonding area to find the actual bonding strength corresponding to the actual bonding area from the bonding area bonding strength table.
ULTRASOUND SCANNING SYSTEM WITH ADAPTIVE GATING
A scanning system for imaging structural features below the surface of an object, the scanning system comprising a transducer module configured to transmit ultrasound signals towards an object and to receive ultrasound signals reflected from the object whereby data pertaining to an internal structure of the object can be obtained; an analysis module coupled to the transducer module and configured to analyse received ultrasound signals to identify a feature in the received ultrasound signals; and a gating module configured to gate received ultrasound signals in dependence on the identified feature.
EDDY CURRENT PROBE AND METHOD FOR DETERMINING PLY ORIENTATION USING EDDY CURRENT AND ULTRASONIC PROBES
A system and method for determining fiber orientation within a layered composite using an eddy current probe is discussed. The eddy current probe includes an array of coils that are excited such that an effective pole of the end effector of the probe moves in a ring pattern. The eddy current probe is moved across the surface of a part such that a two-dimensional scan of the part is generated, analogous to a C-scan in ultrasonic testing. The eddy current probe is able to be used to determine the fiber orientation of a layered composite material by scanning at a single point on the material. The eddy current data is able to be fused with data from an ultrasonic transducer to produce a comprehensive view of the part.
Method, system and tool for determining a wall thickness of an object
A method and system are described for determining a wall thickness of an object such as a pipeline using ultrasound. A pig is used that includes at least one first ultrasonic transducer that is attached to the pig for transmitting ultrasound in the object. Using at least one second ultrasonic transducer, a receiving signal is generated representing reflections of the ultrasound on the object received by the at least one second transducer. The received signals are processed by a processor provided at the pig to obtain a compressed receiving signal. In use, the processor determines a maximal N peaks having largest amplitudes and associated information on a moment on which each one of the maximal N peaks occurs within the receiving signal. Information about the maximal N peaks and associated information on the moment on which the maximal N peaks occurs is stored as the compressed receiving signal in a storing device of the pig.
